Andre Rieu Ticket Information

André Rieu—born André Léon Marie Nicolas Rieu on October 1, 1949, in— Maastricht, Netherlands is one of the most successful and widely recognized classical musicians in the world, best known as a violinist, conductor, and the founder of the Johann Strauss Orchestra. Often called the “King of the Waltz,” Rieu has reshaped how classical music is presented and experienced, transforming it into a joyful, inclusive, arena‑scale celebration rather than a formal concert‑hall ritual. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he has brought orchestral music to audiences far beyond the traditional classical base, selling millions of albums and tickets worldwide.

Rieu was born into a deeply musical household—his father was conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra—and began violin lessons at age five. He studied at the Conservatorium Maastricht, the Royal Conservatoire of Liège, and later the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, graduating with the highest distinction (Premier Prix). Though trained in strict classical tradition, Rieu developed a fascination with 19th‑century Viennese waltzes, particularly the works of Johann Strauss II, whose melodies would later define his artistic identity.

In 1987, Rieu founded the Johann Strauss Orchestra, initially with just twelve musicians. From the beginning, his vision differed from conventional orchestral presentation: musicians performed standing, smiled, interacted with audiences, and played waltzes and classical favorites with theatrical flair. This approach reached its breakthrough moment in the mid‑1990s following Rieu’s recording of Shostakovich’s “Second Waltz,” which became a global hit and launched him into international stardom. Since then, the orchestra has grown to 50–60 musicians, touring continuously across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Australia.

What distinguishes André Rieu from other classical figures is scale. His tours routinely rank among the highest‑grossing worldwide, sometimes outselling major rock acts in annual Pollstar and Billboard tour rankings.

In 2026, André Rieu embarks on one of the most expansive touring years of his career with the Johann Strauss Orchestra World Tour, encompassing 70+ concerts across more than 20 countries.
