The Edmonton Oilers are a professional ice hockey team based in Edmonton. The Oilers compete in the National Hockey League as a member of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. They play their home games at Rogers Place, which opened in 2016. Their current head coach Jay Woodcroft was hired on February 11, 2022, and Ken Holland was named as the general manager on May 7, 2019. The Oilers are one of two NHL franchises based in Alberta, the other being the Calgary Flames; their close proximity to each other has led to a fierce rivalry known as the "Battle of Alberta".
The 2022–23 Edmonton Oilers season will be the 44th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 22, 1979, and 51st season overall, including their play in the World Hockey Association (WHA). The Oilers will kick off the season with a six-game homestand, with the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames coming to town for the first two games of the season. The season will begin on October 12 and the final game is scheduled for April 13.
