NFL Football and Thanksgiving. The two are synonymous, and date back all the way to the league’s creation in 1920. The other mainstays are two of the teams the play. The Detroit Lions have hosted a Thanksgiving Day game since 1934, while the Dallas Cowboys has hosted one since 1966. More recently a third, prime-time game has been added to the slate. Teams will also use the occasion to wear classic throwback uniforms, a tradition that has occasionally extended to almost all games of the weekend. The 2022 NFL Thanksgiving Games promise to be just as extraordinary as years prior.
With a history spanning over 100 years, it is undeniable that the NFL’s Thanksgiving Day has seen its fair share of memorable moments. In 1998, Pittsburgh Steeler Jerome Bettis called both heads and tails while the coin was in the air. 2011 saw head coaches and brothers John and Jim Harbaugh pitted up against each other. The primetime game in 2012 became infamous for what was later referred to as the “Butt Fumble,” when New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez ran headfirst into the backside of his teammate and fumbled the ball.
Buffalo Bills vs Detroit Lions
Detroit hosts their 83rd NFL Thanksgiving Day game, the most in NFL history. Unfortunately for the Lions, they’ve lost five Thanksgiving Day games in a row, and Buffalo is a favorite. Look for the Lions to rely on their young playmakers to try and pull off the upset.
New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys
Big Blue heads to AT&T Stadium for this NFC-East rivalry. Thanksgiving Day has been unkind to America’s Team, as Dallas has lost four of its last five games. A win for the Giants would be a huge statement, as they’re hoping for a turnaround season.
New England Patriots vs Minnesota Vikings
This will be the Patriots first NFL Thanksgiving game since 2012. Look for head coach Bill Belichick to lead the Pats to victory against an up-tempo all-star Vikings offense lead by quarterback Kirk Cousins.
