J Balvin was born in Medellin, Colombia, where he grew up listening to hardrock and reggaeton. Becoming inspired by the business savvy of artists like Jay-Z and P. Diddy, he adopted the name J Balvin “El Negocio”. He released “Ella Me Cautivo” to EMI Colombia, and it charted on number 35 on the Billboard Tropical Songs chart. His first album, La Familia, spent over 100 weeks on the Latin Albums chart. His Latin Grammy Award-winning single, “Ay Vamos”, was remixed by Nicky Jam and French Montana and was used in the Furious 7 soundtrack. “Mi Gente”, Balvin’s global number 1 hit song, was remixed by Beyonce and a string of other huge artists. Critics have described J Balvin’s reggaeton style as a contrast from conventional reggaeton. His gentle flow favors a more pop-influenced style, rather than the hard-hitting rap that most reggaeton artists adopt. Though the artist is fluent in English, J Balvin is motivated to make reggaeton a globally accepted genre of music, and has set forth to only sing in spanish in his tracks.
After his historic Coachella performance, J Balvin announced a layout of his North American Arcoiris Tour. Catch J Balvin in cities like Atlanta, Miami, Boston, and much more! Grab your J Balvin tickets now before it’s too late!
