Life & Career

Born in the Bronx, New York, Blige dropped out of high school in her junior year to pursue a music career. At the age of 18, MJB signed with Andre Harrell’s Uptown Records in 1989 and became the label’s youngest and first female artist. She went platinum with her debut album What’s the 411? in 1992 with executive producer Sean “Diddy” Combs. Rolling Stone ranks Blige’s second album, My Life, as one of its 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. With a total of 13 albums, The Queen has sold more than 75 million records worldwide. MJB’s 2006 song “Be Without You” spent an unparalleled 15 weeks atop the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and more than 75 weeks on the chart, making it  the most successful R&B/Hip-Hop song of all time according to Billboard magazine.
