History

After both the Giants and the Dodgers left New York in 1958, bringing a National League team back to America’s largest city was a matter of pride. William Shea made it happen 4 years later, creating one of the sport’s first expansion teams and bringing baseball to Queens. With a keen eye for their legacy, the Mets adopted the Giants’ old logo and combined their old orange colors with the Dodgers’ blue.

The Mets had a rough start, setting a record for the most losses in their inaugural season and finishing at or near the bottom for the next 6 years. That made it all the sweeter in 1969, when Tom Seaver led the team all the way to the World Series, where they became the first expansion team to win it all.
