All players involved, even Buck Weaver, who decline to participate in throwing the game, were banned for life. In 1920, the New York Yankees set a new standard in baseball. From 1920-1964, the Yankees played in 29 World Series games and won 20 of them. In 1969, a structured playoff series was created, and the National and American Leagues were divided into two respective divisions. The two division winners played each other in a best-of-five League Championship Series until it was changed to best-of-seven in 1985.
