With nearly 40 team national championships in 7 different sports, the University of Oklahoma Sooners have long been considered one of the best collegiate sporting programs in the country. Part of the Big 12 Conference, the Norman-based school is especially famous for its football—a team that boasts 7 national titles, 41 conference championships, and the longest winning streak in NCAA history. In fact, the team is such a sense of pride for the school that former OU president George Lynn Cross once said, “I want a university the football team can be proud of.” Grab an affordable ticket for Owen Field to watch the squad face off against long-standing rivals like the Oklahoma State Cowboys, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and the Texas Longhorns.
While Oklahoma is most known for its football, the school is home to plenty of other top teams as well. With another 7 national titles, the wrestling team is one of the most celebrated in the division. Since the early 1980s, the men’s basketball team has risen to national prominence, appearing in 26 of the last 35 NCAA Tournaments. They share the Lloyd Noble Center with the women’s basketball team, who have made it into almost every NCAA playoff since the 1999 season. Outside, on Marita Hynes Field, the softball team draws a crowd with plays that have earned them 4 wins at the Women’s College World Series, most recently as 2017. Of Oklahoma’s teams, however, the most decorated goes to gymnastics. Between the men’s and women’s squads, they’ve brought the school 14 national titles, with both teams winning back-to-back in 2016 and ‘17. No matter what sport you’re into, the Oklahoma Sooners bring the heat. Grab your budget-friendly ticket today and get ready for a rousing rendition of “Boomer Sooner.”
