A Redemption Story

The Mariners came into being in the aftermath the disastrous single season that the Seattle Pilots spent in the city before they fled to Milwaukee. Leaving the Pilots’ name and ignominious legacy behind, the M’s faced their own early struggles. The team needed until 1991 before they posted a winning record, and spent the next decade at the edge of greatness. In 1995, when they beat the New York Yankees in the playoffs but then fell short of the pennant in Cleveland. In 2001, they tied the 1906 Chicago Cubs for the most season wins in Major League history, but lost the pennant to the Yankees.
