Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites started off playing covers in New York City. After relocating to Denver, Colorado, the band became focused on writing original music to perform at open mic events. The Lumineers signed a management deal with Onto Entertainment and released “Ho Hey” in 2011. The song was featured on the season finale of Hart of Dixie, and immediately garnered social media attention. After signing with Dualtone Records, the band released their first studio album, The Lumineers. The album peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Top 200. Both “Ho Hey” and “Stubborn Love” saw weeks of holding the number one position on Billboard. In 2014, Shultz and Fraites collaborated on “The Hanging Tree”, the widely popular song performed by Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1. In 2016, The Lumineers released Cleopatra. “Ophelia”, the album's first single, topped the Triple A chart for 13 weeks straight. In the following year, The Lumineers supported U2 on their Joshua Tree Tour, as well as perform twice with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The Lumineers take pride in the simplicity of their music. While most artists today are hungry to reinvent or enhance their sound through the digital revolution, Schultz and Fraites take the opposite path.
