It all began in 2005, as the International Olympic Committee decided to take baseball out of the Games. The search for a new venue for the world’s best talent saw the International Baseball Federation and Major League Baseball team up to organize a new summer event. Scheduled early in the year to avoid conflicting with the regular season, the games were created to let the biggest stars team up for the chance to become true world champions.

The world’s most popular leagues lent their all-star players to the tournament, where national teams from both hemispheres gathered to play under their country’s flag. The tournament has expanded to 20 teams, and will take place in the United States, as well as Taiwan and Japan. Groups C & D will play their first round games in the United States. Group C which is comprised of Canada, Mexico, the United States, and Great Britain. Group C's games will take place at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ. Group D features the Dominican Republic, Israel, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and Nicaragua. Their games take place at loanDepot Park in Miami,FL. Miami will also play host to the Quarterfinals, as well as the Semifinals and Championship.
