Altomonte is located approximately 240 miles (386 kilometers) from Rome, the national capital, and about 100 miles (161 kilometers) from Amalfi.
From firm tourist favorites to still-undiscovered gems, the area around Altomonte is crisscrossed with sights and attractions. Cassano allo Ionio, is 12 miles (19 kilometers) to the southwest. Here you can see the Sibaritide National Archaeological Museum and Archeological Park of Sybaris.
About 30 miles (48 kilometers) to the south of Altomonte is Cosenza, a regional city where you go see Church of Sant'Agostino, Teatro Morelli and Hohenstaufen Castle. Calabria National Park, Azienda Ospedaliera dell'Annunziata and Duomo di Cosenza are also good places to spend a little time.
If you are after things to do inside, make a beeline for Calabria's palaces, theaters and history museums. These are great places to to learn a little about the region's culture and perhaps pick up a souvenir. Calabria is blessed with some wonderful cathedrals, sure to impress both atheists and the faithful.
