Nice view of Lake Superior

Posted Mar 27, 2015
Pros: The view and grounds
Cons: Updated areas of the hotel
Location: This was a business trip
The hotel is a bit dated. There were "excuse the dust" signs but not much work going on.

Cons: no children in the whirlpool. It's not relaxing (that's the purpose) to have 4-6 little kids kicking and splashing around me.
I was there to see the Christmas lights at Canal Park in Duluth. I was with my daughter and 3 grandchildren. I liked the fact that we were by the pool, easy to check on the kids (16-14 and 6 years). The room was nice.

Great location, staff & room. We will come back.

Posted Nov 26, 2014
Pros: location, friendly staff & good food
Cons: All is good as is.
A lot of kids being kids yelling and screaming in the hall next to the pool. At 10 pm the hotel staff was patrolling the halls informing the kids and parents that it was now quiet time. That worked and we were able enjoy a quiet and restful night. We have put Barkers Island at the top of our list for places to stay when we return to the Duluth/Superior area.

Ok stay

Posted Nov 18, 2014
Everything was clean but hotel is old and ran down. My sheets had a hole and the air conditioner would kick on every once in awhile just for fun. Was worth the price compared to other I have seen. We did get free breakfast which was very nice and great meal and service

OK Place But Needs Updating

Posted Oct 7, 2014
Pros: Bathroom was nice; new tile and a good shower.
Cons: Update it. Old style TV, furniture is old, mini-fridge was noisy, coffee pot was ancient.
This is a decent hotel sorely in need of updating. And I'm sure it's more enjoyable in the summer when you can take advantage of the waterfront location.

Great location & pet policy

Posted Oct 7, 2014
It's awesome to have a hotel that is truly ok with pets! All pets were in one end of the hotel, so you didn't worry if they barked a few times when someone walked past your room. All rooms have a view of the lake, as it's on both sides. Very convenient location for Superior and Duluth, yet out of the congestion. Beautiful pool. Right on a walking trail...

Superior Wisconsin

Location: Had dinner at the Anchor Bar near by, would go there again.
Good place to stay for the price. I did not really use any of the amenities, just needed a place to sleep on the way thru town.

Beautiful location but rooms are a dump

Posted Sep 2, 2014
Pros: The grounds and location were beautiful.
Cons: Carpets in the rooms need to be replaced. Get rid of the bad smell - cross between mould and stale smokey bar smell.
We had stayed at Barkers Island a few years ago and loved the beautiful location and were expecting the same experience. We were very disappointed to see that the rooms had become run down. Our group had two rooms and both had a very bad smell that even air freshners couldn't get rid of. The carpets were very damp to point of being almost wet and had to keep shoes on. One half of our window was so smudged you couldn't see out of it. One bed in the room was saggy and was slanted to one side like the frame wasn't adjusted correctly. The other bed which we slept on was OK but the sheets barely fit and it came with an old wool blanket. It was hard to get any sleep with the bad smell in the room and noise from the room air conditioner. The curtains had little pinholes in them and were completed mismatched from the bedspreads. The bathroom was clean and the only thing that seemed OK. For price we paid for room we should have received a much better room.

Nice hotel facing water.

Posted Sep 1, 2014
Pros: On island.
Cons: We were not told about a big event happening that weekend. Dragon boat races. It would have been nice knowing what we were running into.
Location: We were going to Duluth for the air show. But there is a lot to do in this area.
We liked the motel on the island. We had a 2 room suite, but there was no door between the rooms. That would have been nice. The Wi-Fi didn't work the whole three days we were there. The bar/restaurant was good. Nice pool area. Parts of the motel seemed old and dingy/ worn out.
