"Lovely place in great location"
Very pleasant reception staff, beautifully furnished, quiet, spacious (rare in London) room with a large window, coffee/tea making facility, very nice bathroom with toiletry items, and free wifi. Was disturbed by a strong intrusion of cigarette smoke smell in the morning, despite this being a no smoking hotel, but a quick phone call to reception put an end to that. Fabulous location just steps from Notting Hill Gate underground station and buses to central London locations. Just a few minutes walk to a choice of cafes, including Ottolenghi, Paul's, and Le Pain Quotidien, plus an enormous array of ethnic and local restaurants. 10 minutes to Kensington Gardens, which borders Kensington Palace, former home of Princess Diana and current home of Prince William and family. What's not to like?

"Perfect Stay"
Needed a Hotel in the Notting Hill area as we had an 8am meeting in Notting Hill. Only a one night stay but this Hotel proved to be exactly what we required. We booked an executive room which turned out to be on the 3rd floor (room 47) and it was excellent. Good sized room, clean, with kitchenette/ settee TV in separate room. Only 50 yards from the Underground on the Central line. Plenty of Banks, restaurants, chemists and even cinema nearby and a Tesco supermarket only 100 yards away. Slightly on the down side - Photo ID is required at check in, although I did not see that it was a requirement when I booked or when confirmation was received. Being from the UK we do not carry passports with us so this seemed to cause the Receptionist a bit of a problem - eventually I convinced him that we were who we were !! Also there was plenty of Police activity (sirens etc) after 10pm and again in the early hours so you need to be sensible and street wise if out late.

"Great if you're a Hobbit!"
In reception I had to avoid decorators' tools that were on the floor near the entrance, and the receptionist was wearing an unironed shirt. However, he was very helpful and pleasant. My room was minute, and I am only 5'2"! The room did contain everything that the info stated, but the bed was just about slotted into an alcove, there was a shower and a loo, and a tiny tv on the wall at the base of the bed near my feet, but there was no table and extremely little space. I have never stayed in such a small room. Added to this, there was a very strong smell of garlic, coming through the walls. The staff were all helpful, breakfast was in a sunny attractive room, and the breakfast was adequate. If only I was a Hobbit who loved the smell of garlic, it would have been perfect!

Pocket Guide: London Notting Hill Independent Hotels

Made famous by the eponymous film, Notting Hill is an affluent cosmopolitan neighbourhood of large Victorian townhouses, high-class shopping and chic restaurants. Adjacent, Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park are grittier but still hip. Portobello Road is famous for its weekend market and antiques shops. Late August sees the Notting Hill Carnival, the largest Caribbean festival and biggest street party in Europe.
