Seems to be best out of other RIU in the area.
Focused on couples (mid to older age) and families, if you are single little things here and there will remind you of this.
Super clean hotel with very friendly staff but if you look closer the 2012 renovation was more of a good patch. Specialty restaurants are not worth it (except steak house that seems to be always booked), buffet however is outstanding and with a few new things daily! Pools are nothing special but the beach access is great.
If you looking for things to do there are up to 5 different travel agents in the lobby bar daily (or at least during week) that can give you a few options. You can also get a few water things booked at the beach dive shop.

We enjoyed a day at the Mayan ruins in Tulum. Another day we went on a quad ride to the jungle and underground water caves, Carlos from the Riu Tequila was an excellent tour guide. Walks on the beach were amazing as were the sunsets. The food choices were delicious and all the staff was courteous and delightful to be around.
