The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had a Penthouse room which was lovely with 2 exceptions - a toilet that isn't private is not ideal - a full door isn't too much to ask. Also, the room never got cooler than 26 degrees C, despite the AC being on full blast at all times. We stopped at the front desk to ask about it, and they said the penthouse rooms just "don't get that cool" which is unacceptable in a very warm environment. The specialty restaurants were good with excellent service (if you were fine with going at 6pm or 8:30pm, otherwise had to wait 45mins to an hour), but the buffet was pretty bad (for breakfast, lunch, or dinner). The buffet had lots of options, but nothing that was very flavorful or cooked well. Drinks are weak (as usual at an all inclusive resort). The hunger games starting at 7:30am to get a beach chair or day bed is tiring - provide enough seats for your guests. Live entertainment (a singer or a band every evening) was lovely, and the waitresses there are great and work their tails off. Overall, it was a great trip and the hotel itself is beautiful. Foodies or heavy drinkers, look elsewhere to avoid disappointment. I recommend implementing an online reservation system for the restaurants to make things run smoother.

I enjoyed every minute staying there - from the checkin to church the checkout. Check in place Ives's is very quick, as well as checkout (unless I paid extra 9 dollars of taxes for 6 nights). It is not very easy to get there, as it is in the middle of nowhere on the way to tulip. The best option here is to get a taxi or transfer from the airport, which is about $100 (US Dollars) one way. They have 5 different restaurants except the main one. No reservation, just wait for a few minutes in the line. The food is great, there's also 24/7 snack bar. A separate sushi bar works from 11 to 18. So there's a lot of the food options. The alcohol is not great, but you can get a light or amber XX beer, great white wine, not so good red wine and different cocktail options (this could be improved). They have some kind of whiskey, but those are OK for cocktails only. And tequila, of course! Small gym, usually empty, but very hot inside. SPA for an additional payment. The room is very spacious (Junior Suite Ocean Front) room service is great, but the door to the bathroom is is just a simple piece of glass and not soundproof. There are complimentary drinks and snacks in the fridge and a coffee maker. Personnel is very nice and friendly, also , very helpful. It was probably my best vacation!

Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort gave my husband and I the rejuvenation we needed with everything being inclusive. The staff at Akumal were very professional and took the time to learn their residents. Most of the servers just got me my favorite drink without even being told, which I was very impressed with their attention to detail and service.

Staff was Very helpful and did their best to remedy our stay and it’s problems. Room leaked water onto my face and lap during rain storm waking me at 2am in a puddle of water. Air conditioning never worked. Moved rooms after leak at 2am of night 2. We stayed in PH 4312, moved in v cover of night to from building 4 to building 1. Arrived at new room by 330am. We took our bags down the next morning to be held until 9am room switch. This was day 2, still hadn’t had a proper sleep, still running around, still dragging our bags and waiting for a room. Our new room was ready at 9am, we collected our bags, went to our new room 4311 (next door) to our old room and crossed our fingers the air was in better condition (which we reported on day 2 after a steamy warm night of sleep). The room was in better condition but the air was unfortunately still the same. We called and they sent maintenance to fix, he came in, looked at it said the compressor needed repair and said give him an hour-it never was fixed. We slept every night in a pool of sweat, reported it again but no luck-needless to say, we slept barely a wink and by day three we’re considering cutting our losses and going home. By Thursday we could not wait to fly home, we were disappointed in our stay and even though they offered massages, sent a bottle of wine (or fridge leaked everyday and didn’t cool) and said they would reserve our beds at the beach each day we were like zombies walking around around each day.

This was my fourth stay at ABR and sadly somewhat disappointed. We stayed there the week before Thanksgiving and it was packed at full capacity. Overall it’s still a solidly-good resort but has some issues. First of all the staff is really good… attentive and friendly. The food is good/decent in the main dining room (we did not eat at any of the “restaurants“ on site). It’s a great location, great beach and very close to an excellent dive shop and other restaurants… 5–10 minutes down the beach. However there’s getting to be enough “negative” issues that I’m not sure if I’ll stay here again… Here’s the list. Frequently running out of beach towels. Put more regular lounge chairs around the pools (all they have are beds) . Rooms are getting to be very dated and my air conditioner and ceiling fan were very noisy. Because of building#2 being adjacent to the outdoor nightclub/bar, it’s really undesirable to most people (noisy until 1030 PM). I had asked in my reservation not to be put in building 2, but sure enough I was put in building 2 upon check-in. I literally had to repeatedly encourage/argue to get moved to another room… after speaking with three different people I finally got moved. Very frustrating. I wish they had their own reservation system with more options for room/building selection.

The beautiful natural setting of the resort was unique. The resort is mostly outdoors so if you cannot deal with minimal air conditioning then it is not the best place for you. I did not enjoy the lack of variety of vegetarian options. I really missed a good mixed salad with dressing. The Mexican fine dining was very disappointing. Lima is the best restaurant for vegetarians in my opinion. Best staff members were Erik and Abrianna. They really went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. I did not like the $10.00 environmental fee tagged on at the end of our stay. That should have been communicated with us beforehand. Overall it is a very peaceful and relaxing place for vacation by the water.
