quiet location, near food market good food at Bobs

Posted Nov 21, 2015
Pros: Very quiet, friendly and courteous staff.
Cons: In the process of renovating so that will be a great improvement when done.
Location: Nice location away from the hussle and bussel of high rise area.Beautifuf Eagle Beach across the street.
Fourth stay at this Resort and a little disappointing. 2 burner electric stove and only 1 worked. No washer on floor we were staying so we had to go to another floor, management had no idea the washer was not there. Constant water on floor in some areas from condensation. Mold spots on lamp shade in living room and curtains. I have always enjoyed staying there but next time will ask for a room that has been updated.

Charming older hotel

Posted Nov 20, 2015
Pros: The swimming pools, hot tubs and the lovely beach were wonderful!
Cons: The plumbing and painting the outside of the building.
Location: Excellent location near the beach, a great Caribbean Buffet restaurant, and a fabulous grocery store!
The Tropicana was a lovely, older hotel. It was clean and comfortable. Near the beach. Lovely pools and hot tubs. Great Dunkin Donuts! The septic tank had a problem which caused our tub to fill with old water. At first the person on the evening staff said it would be fixed in the morning but when several other rooms experienced the same problem, plumbers were called in immediately and the problem was taken care of. Good maid service and friendly staff.

Pros: The staff at Bobs pizza and bar were very friendly.
Location: Location not too bad, short walk to beach.
This hotel is in a good area., but was very disappointing. The hotel is very old and outdated, especially the furnishings in the room. The Casino is nothing special either, very small. This hotel needs a total over-haul. We will never stay there again.

Pros: The pool area and location was good. Near Eagle beach so we made the best of it. We weren't there to spend a lot of time in our hotel room anyway.
Cons: The staff has to work more on being more friendly and welcoming. I did not get a warm fuzzy and usually I'm not picky on any of that stuff.
Location: We rented a car, it's easy to get around the island. Hotel was midway between downtown on one side and other side that had more tourist things to do.
Hotel was being renovated on one side, that was not the problem. The room we had was old, which explains the renovations, but the cleanliness was disappointing. The room smelled musty and moldy. Had to buy an air freshener to tolerate as all the rooms seemed the same. Couch in room looked like it was about to fall apart. The pool area was nice but it was like night of the living dead, no music really or activity like other resorts. The staff when checking in did not seem that friendly or welcoming. I was told I had to give them my credit card info to put deposit on for any room charges during my stay. I knew I wouldn't be charging anything to my room, but I understand they need to have something to have on file while staying there, but when checking out they told me it takes 14 days to see that deposit credited back to me. Also when checking out they didn't ask how my stay was and didn't give me any kind of receipt so I can ensure nothing erroneous was charged to my room. Again they said I have to wait 14 days to see the deposit back on my credit card. No paperwork given to me in the end.

A quieter alternative

Posted Nov 11, 2015
Pros: Comfortable and quiet.
Cons: I would suggest a mild makeover to the existing rooms-a better couch and chair would be nice.
Location: Close to the beach, just a short walk away. Super Food right across the road.
We have stayed here for the last several years. The location on Eagle Beach is good. This is a property in transition, they are in the process of updating the rooms and painting the buildings etc....The best feature for us is getting a separate bedroom and living/kitchen area for the price of a one room suite. The rooms are dated, the furnishings worn, but the rooms remain comfortable. Nothing fancy here. The housekeeping staff always keep our room very clean. The Tropicana does have two great pools and nice grounds with plenty of security. The resort is also very quiet most of the time, something we really enjoy. Inexpensive dining choices on the grounds too.

You have to know the history...

Posted Oct 26, 2015
Pros: Pools, staff
Cons: Dated rooms
Location: Great location. 2 min walk to the beach.
I knew this place when it first opened as La Cabana. It since split, has had financial issues, and now is a Tropicana. The rooms are dated, at least the ones they rent. The bathrooms are the exact same as day 1. That said it is a large property, and it did have financial issues, so I do not mind staying there one night before our regular stay starts next door. The pools are very nice, the bar and restaurant is good too. The biggest issue is the dated rooms. If you do not care about that, I would recommend this place, because the price point is usually the lowest around.
