Walk in the footsteps of Martin Luther King Jr. as you explore the heart of the state capital of Georgia.

Visit Downtown Atlanta to make new discoveries and salute the past in the revamped Sweet Auburn neighborhood, walk below the historic highrises of Fairlie-Poplar, check out the mixed architecture of SoNo and try the craft beers and delectable food in artistic and hip Castleberry Hill.

Discover the city’s heart on foot and cross some of the iconic skywalks in the Peachtree Center neighborhood, which was pegged as “new” downtown of Atlanta in the 1970s. Admire the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and head to Agatha’s, “A Taste of Mystery” Dinner Theater for a thrilling night out. Nearby SoNo has the Elizabethan-style Shakespeare Tavern.

A must-do in Downtown Atlanta is browsing the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park, along with the Downtown Apex Museum and National Center for Civil and Human Rights to learn more about the pivotal role Atlanta played in America’s civil rights movement.

See the Martin Luther King House where the famous human rights activist grew up and visit the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change where he was buried after his assassination in 1968.

For lunch, head to the Ponce City Market, which also has a rooftop mini-golf course, amusement park, beer garden and cocktail bar. The views of the Downtown Atlanta skyline are almost just as awesome from the Ferris wheel called SkyView Atlanta. At the Fountain of Rings watch the water jets dance to the beats of the music. The kids will also love Georgia Aquarium.

Tour the World of Coca-Cola museum to see how the world’s most famous cola is made and visit the CNN Center to step inside the news studios.

Go see a big-name concert or watch a basketball game at the city’s iconic State Farm Arena, or cheer on the Atlanta Falcons NFL team at the futuristic Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Reaching all these wonderful places in Downtown Atlanta is easy thanks to the Atlanta streetcars and MARTA trains and buses. If you only have a short time to see the highlights, jump aboard an eco-vehicle for a narrated tour or travel along the same route on a Segway or shared Relay bike.
