UNIQUE HISTORY OF THE HOUSE:
200-YEAR-OLD GRAND ROW HOUSE MANSION WITH 4 CAR PRIVATE PARKING SPACE :
The historic Cathedral Mansion of Mount Vernon, less than 1 mile from the Inner Harbor, Baltimore, was used as a set for "House of Cards," some independent films, and a British reality TV show. It was featured in the Baltimore Business Journal as "Built in 1847 to serve as a city residence for wealthy families who lived out of town, this five-story grand mansion was once owned by former Gilman School Headmaster Wardlaw "Wardie" Miles — who also just happened to be F. Scott Fitzgerald's English professor at Princeton."

This Row-house was built in the trendy Greek Revival style architecture of the Victorian Era with hand-carved wooden columns and 8-marble fireplaces by George Gaither, a well-known, 19th century merchant and a descendent of Benjamin Gaither of the City of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Although, Cathedral Home has been renovated, we have tried to preserve most of the original features of the house, original hardwood floors, plaster walls, marble fireplaces, plaster ceiling medallions, hand-crafted doors, French windows, and handrails.

Originally listed at $1.5 million, the house has a side in-law unit at entry level with 2 bedrooms (no stairs to climb) a kitchen, dining space, living/game room with a pool table, and bistro-style tables with sleek bar stools. The main wing decorated in Victorian theme is accessible from the side unit. A gorgeous foyer with Greek Revival architecture leads up to the attic 5 levels up. Each level showcases high 22 ft. ceilings in Victorian hallways illuminated by antique chandeliers and enhanced by modern recessed lighting. A state-of-the-art, 21st century, gallery-style kitchen with a massive, wrap-around balcony and a high skylight sits at the heart of the mansion. An impressive bronze eagle sculpture perches against the bright skylight. The house is decorated with antique art pieces, elegant furniture, and numerous magnificent, and antique wall mirrors positioned to reflect infinity and invite fun and formal photo shoots. Ninety percent of the floors are original 200-yrs-old Victorian era hardwood floors and uneven at some places.

The Attic Rooms 5 levels up are decorated in a fun, Bohemian style with vibrant colors. The 3 attic bedrooms have low-ceilings and no doors perhaps, not for everyone but there are enough rooms and beds to go around.

Wow
Oh my gosh! What an amazing find in Baltimore! This property is absolutely stunning! We booked this for our wedding party and it was beyond perfect for our friends and family. For those with an eye for photography, the decor, furniture, and natural lighting are a wedding photographer's dream! For those looking for a space that can offer a side unit, perhaps for a groom's parlor, look no further! For those with a love of old houses, what a charming find! The only note of caution is that you will get a workout going up and down several flights of stairs. (I promise it is worth it!) The hosts are very responsive and super thorough. You can trust that the property will be clean and ready for you!

Great stay for big group
The house comfortably slept 18 people and has the perfect set-up for a group outing. One tricky thing to navigate is lack of keyless entry, which was somewhat complicated for a large group. Even with that said, though, this was a phenomenal find and I would not hesitate to book it again with a group.

Giant place, great location, great communication
My group had an excellent time staying at Karuna and Joe's mansion. The place is in a tremendous location. You are caddy corner to an art museum, a block away from a great food hall, and walking distance to most things downtown Baltimore. The place itself is great for hosting large groups, with nice central gathering areas as well. We brought about 12, but we could have fit many more. Karuna was impeccable with communication before and during our stay. Highly recommend this place!

I can't say enough wonderful things about this property. Karuna and Joe were amazing hosts- had all the necessities you would need when renting a house. Very clean, and comfy beds. Their house is a perfect grand historic property. We had a small wedding in the area and were able to have everyone stay at the house, and have a beautiful dinner in the gorgeous grand dining room. It was a perfect weekend! Thank you again Karuna and Joe!

Gorgeous, spacious, very convenient
We were a team of 5 who stayed at the historic mansion for a training. Due to the pandemic we needed social distancing and we had all 5 floors and the unit to ourselves! This mansion is beautiful--elegant and very historic. Every floor has a bathroom, the rooms are humongous and bright. We felt very regal. Once we parked our cars, we just walked everywhere to restaurants and to the training center near the harbor. Joe and Karuna were very attentive to us. I would recommend this mansion if you want to travel with family, friends, and for business--spacious and very very convenient. One of a kind--experience!
