Amazing stay in Southwest Harbor!
We just spent two weeks at Cyd and Ken’s wonderful place! They went above and beyond to make our stay amazing. Their place is beautifully decorated (including fresh flowers) and warm and cozy. We enjoyed the fully stocked kitchen, fireplace, comfortable furnishings and great internet access. Trails into town and to Acadia are accessible from their property - quite a treat! They are very responsive to questions/requests. A perfect vacation (thanks Cyd and Ken)!

Wonderful place!
This was our 7th year returning to MDI but our 1st year staying at the Carriage House. Wonderful place. Quiet, peaceful, exceptionally clean, everything you could ask for. Ken and Cyd are wonderful hosts. We will be definitely returning to stay at the Carriage House.

Fantastic!
The Carriage House is a true gem on the “Quiet Side” in Southwest Harbor Maine! Cyd and Ken were are wonderful hosts and made us feel so welcome. Little touches like fresh flowers, wood for the fire pit, lots of books and pamphlets on Acadia…I could go on. Everything was wonderful! Honeymoon Retreat
My new husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon as we explored Acadia National park and the Bar Harbor area. The cabin was absolutely perfect! It was very cozy and had everything we needed. Our first night we arrived late in the evening and it was pouring rain, but Cyd and Ken kept the light on for us and made sure we got settled in safely. They also gave us good directions and tips for touring Acadia NP. They were delightful hosts with a diamond of a cabin.

Best rental ever!
Comfortable, clean, and cozy. Cyd and Ken are the BEST people, and their carriage house was perfect for my wife and I. The bed was comfortable (we find this to be a common problem with some rentals), and the space was immaculate. We did a lot of hiking, and coming home to a fire (inside or out) was a great finish to our days. It’s truly nestled in the woods, and you can walk to trails. Very quiet at night…very peaceful. We will stay here again the next time we head north!

Awesome Carriage House
My husband and I chose the carriage house due to its proximity to Acadia. We were very pleased with the accommodations and amenities. We also met Cyd, who was so warm and welcoming. Cyd and Ken provided a list of off season restaurants, which was so helpful for the time of year we went. We would definitely stay here again if in the area!

Serenity Discovered
My husband and I visited the area for five days and we could not have asked for a better experience at the cottage. We were able to cook some meals in the well appointed kitchen and relax at night with the gas fireplace. We walked to one of the Acadia trails on our first day and watched the sun rise. We visited many parts of the island and found the location to be very convenient. Our hosts were responsive and answered all of our questions. Highly recommend this gem in the woods!

This is a must see. The property owner was a breath of fresh air to communicate with and hugely helpful in so many ways! If we needed help with nearby attractions or just figuring out the WiFi she was there! The property was perfectly appointed and extremely comfortable. There is nothing to 'not' like about The Carriage House. It is nestled in the woods, a short drive from the road, with easy access. A grocery store is a short drive away, the small town of Sout West Harbor another mile or two further. The living area (upstairs above an empty two car garage), is unbelievably spotless, immaculately cleaned and maintained. Everything you could possibly need is provided, so thoughtfully appointed. A lovely log fire, operated by a thermostat, runs on propane. Originally, I was looking for a log fire. However, this is so much easier and equally as effective, just perfect. Bathroom is shower only which suited my wife and I, and what a good shower it is! And last but not least, the wonderful hosts. They live in a gorgeous house not too far away. You must meet them, two of the loveliest people you could imagine. Thanks to them for making this stay so exceptional. The hiking and driving maps in the house and a great recommendation to an amazing restaurant in Bar Harbor (Havana), were especially appreciated. We will definitely be returning.

35th Anniversary Trip
We had a wonderful time! Cyd and Ken are lovely people and were ready to help with advice or anything that we needed. The Carriage House was perfect for us. It had everything that we needed to cook our own meals. They thought of everything! It was nice to have such a quiet place to retreat to after a day of hiking, biking, and exploring Acadia Park and the various harbors. The trails from the house were an added treat! Definitely hope to return!

Exactly as described. Perfection!
I don’t think we have ever stayed in a rental property that was so perfectly appointed, decorated, spotlessly clean and charming. I cannot imagine anything you might need that was not provided. We did not cook very much as the nearby restaurants were very convenient and the ‘typical’ Maine lobster pounds so enticing. The kitchen area however, though small, did not lack for anything you might need to prepare your own meals. We went to MDI for the hiking in Acadia and this was a perfect spot to come back to recuperate! Quiet, beautiful flower gardens, comfortable and restful. Oh, and the hosts were just wonderful! Looking forward to a return trip!

20 year anniversary trip
The carriage house was perfect for our trip. The hosts are very thorough and easily available without hovering. The house was clean and comfortable and the flowers around the house were just beautiful. The location is great, it’s on the quieter side of the island but less than 2 minutes to groceries, restaurants, gardens, Echo Lake and much more. There is hiking from the house, we didn’t a chance to walk that one but it’s on our list when we return. The house was private and surrounded by lush woods which was perfect. Downtown Bar Harbor was 15 minutes away on a scenic drive. There are also a couple of flower gardens within minutes from the house to enjoy. Don’t miss Ship Harbor and the seawall, they are 5 minutes away and not near as crowded as the park loop road area. Loved the island and the carriage house, definitely recommend.

Perfect spot on the Quiet Side
Everything about this property was great! It had everything you could need, plenty of towels and sheets and a wonderfully stocked kitchen. The carriage house was immaculate on arrival and beautifully decorated. Even the grounds were gorgeous and sitting outside by the fire pit or in the hammock was a joy. For any birdwatchers looking at this property there was a wonderful array of wildlife. Cyd and Ken were wonderful to deal with and always available.

This is the place you're looking for...
We were extremely pleased with the property. Very clean, comfortable and quiet. Close to everything you need. We enjoyed the fire pit area. Had a visit from a turkey and a dear. As written by John Muir...keep close to natures heart....and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit Clean. This is the place!

Spectacular Cottage.
Everything about this experience was outstanding. Cyd and Ken are fantastic hosts. Very friendly, personable and knowledgeable about the area. They offered great recommendations for where to go and what to do. There is nothing we could have asked for except more time to spend there. Perfect place to enjoy Mt. Desert Island!
We had a wonderful time! The house was cozy, quiet, and pristine. Inset windows made for a bright and cheerful atmosphere, as well as comfy places to sit and reading. The full kitchen meant we didn't have to eat out for each meal. The availability of a washer and drier saved us luggage room. Cyd and Ken were perfect hosts and provided us with all the resources we could need to plan our Mt. Desert Island adventures. The location was ideal! Several hiking trails were within walking distance like the Valley Peak Trail. Also walking distance from Carrol Homestead, a great place for a picnic. Within a short drive were additional trails, a delicious bakery, the iconic Bass Harbor Lighthouse, and the Seawall Picnic Area for some brilliant stargazing. A little further, we could explore Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Nothing bad to say! We'd definitely stay here again!

Exceeded expectations!
As a cozy, comfy hideaway with beauty and privacy, the Carriage House offered us the perfect place from which to explore Acadia and surrounding areas. Not only was Bar Harbor and Cadillac Mountain easily accessible, but we went for day trips up to Bangor, over to Deer Isle, and across to Schoodic Point with ease. The cottage was beautiful and immaculate, and the hosts were friendly and available but not hovering, so we felt they offered all the resources we needed from hosts, but also the privacy we craved. The cottage had all the little extras one would hope for. And driving in to their place feels like you're driving into a state park, it's so beautifully situated among the pine tree woods. We highly recommend! Thank you to Cyd and Ken for their graciousness.

Quiet Seclusion in a Charming, Well Outfitted Carriage House
You can tell a lot about a rental home when you read the notes left behind in the guest book. Since I i was just there, I can tell you that the travelers who've stayed in this carriage house RAVE with glowing positivity. I am a Maine regular and have stayed in various locations and VRBO accommodations - this is one of my top 2 picks statewide. If your itinerary calls for a trip to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor or other downeast activities, PICK THIS RENTAL. Ideally situated in the woods, off the main road just far enough that you can hear the wind moving through the trees and set in a small clearing allowing amazing views of the stars on a clear night. (side note: a beautiful doe/deer was on the lawn grazing one morning when I looked out the window) The house is well stocked and appointed with comfortable furniture. My favorite feature was the cozy "wood" stove, which operates on a thermostat, and was glowing softly each morning when I arose to the chilly December sunrise. (*no wood necessary). Cyd and Ken have thoughtfully prepared the house for lazy stay at home days too... a fully stocked kitchen with gas appliances, DirectTV and loads of magazines and puzzles. I saw a small grill in the garage, but I did not use it. You can pack light because there is also a full size WD downstairs. The village of Bar Harbor is 9 miles away. You can literally hike right off the property. There are plenty of antique shops and other conveniences in Ellsworth, which is about 23 minutes drive. Portland International Airport is about 3.5 hours away - Bangor Airport is closer, but I've never flown into it. All in all a fantastic find! I am already looking at reservation dates for 2022.

Welcome to wonderful!
Fresh flowers, chocolates, sparkling clean everything! No, this is not dream; it is really a place you can escape to, secluded, yet convenient access to nature's wonders. Plush bed, with oversized pillows! Soft luxurious bath towels. Thoroughly outfitted kitchen with new appliances. Fast WiFi and TV that works perfectly! Cuddle up by the fire on the loveseat, couch or wicker chair. Breath a deep sigh because you may just be in heaven.

Acadia at Carriage House
We really enjoyed staying here on "the quiet side of the island." The space had everything we needed. Unfortunately there was little open in Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor was a zoo. Enjoyed hiking Gorham and Penobscot Mtn and riding ebikes for 43 miles on the Carriage Roads. Would definitely stay again.

This carriage house was the best deal for us on our trip! Cyd & Ken provided so much info on hikes, resturants and suggestions that we really didn't need to plan ahead! The space is cozy but really only intended for 1 or 2 people, which was totally fine for us. Space was cute and clean and great to chill after a long hike. For first-time vistors to the Bar Harbor/Acadia area, we LOVED our stay here in SouthWest Harbor. Perfect little town, and you can still drive into the busier areas of the island.

A FANTASTIC Stay!
We just loved the property and it's location, which was convenient to hiking trails, water and mountain views, and also close to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Perfect Stay
We wanted a private setting and found the perfect spot. The property is private, quiet and the grounds beautiful. Located on what is referred to as the "quiet side" of the island in Southwest Harbor this wonderful cottage is set back at the end of a private road. The owner's home is right next door. The accomodations are comfortable, beautifully decorated and the owners thought about everything to make a stay convenient and complete. We loved it.

Carriage House Was Perfection
I really don’t have adequate words to describe how perfect the Carriage House is. It is so peaceful and is decorated adorably. It is equipped with everything you will need during your stay. Cyd and Ken are great hosts and so easy to communicate with. Even the small touches were wonderful. They had lilacs waiting on us throughout the house and chocolates on the glasses in the bathroom. We plan on returning as soon as we can. You will not go wrong with the Carriage House.

Perfect Hiking Hideaway
Cyd and Ken are excellent hosts. From the flowers greeting us in the kitchen to the Acadia brochures and hiking guides, everything was thoughtfully presented and cozy. We loved hiking right out the door to some spectacular views of the park. The quiet at night and the cozy gas fireplace was the perfect environment for a relaxing and fun getaway!

My husband and I stayed here during COVID in Oct 2020 and I must say it was probably the cleanest rental I’ve been in. Hosts were great, good location, cozy and quiet spot for us to relax. Still close enough to other points of interest and hiking on MDI. Highly recommend! Would stay here again.

If you are looking for all the comforts of home in a secluded area but still close to trails, restaurants, and shopping this is your place. Cyd and Ken have a ton of literature on the national park too which made it super easy to plan our days. Wonderful place to stay!

Loved the Carriage House
The Carriage house lived up to all the reviews and descriptions. It is very cozy and finished very nicely. From the well stocked kitchen to the fresh flowers, Ken & Cyd have thought of everything. We truly enjoyed staying here and Ken & Cyd couldn't be nicer. It is on the quiet side of the island but yet very convenient to get wherever you want to go. We would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Perfectly appointed, spotless, charming place to stay
I had a perfect stay in this space during COVID times, on the "quiet side" of MDI. I believe it to be new construction--a detached building, over a garage, and this gives it additional peace and privacy. The space is not large, but is perfect for one or a couple. It is close to Valley Cove and Flying Mountain trails which can be reached without a car. A+++ hosts providing every thoughtful thing, including flowers in every room (!!!)

Quaint and Quiet Carriage House
Visiting the Bar Harbor area off season (March) and with some Covid-19 restrictions in place was a gamble but the Carriage House and the weather were perfect. Ken and Cyd have created the perfect oasis in the woods. We loved the access to hiking trails right from the property as well as within several minutes drive. Quite and peaceful, the Carriage House had everything we needed and more. We felt immediate calm as soon as we arrived and were welcomed with fresh flowers and a cozy fireplace. We can't wait to go back and continue our exploration of all the natural beauty in the area knowing we will have the peacefully secluded Carriage House to return to at the end of the day.
