Its must have been five years since I last visited the Metropole. I know it is being modernised but it is more than a little tired. For the price I paid, the room was comfortable but was unable to change the room temperature settings and although tea/coffee there was no "snacks" and not even a pencil or pen when I needed one. This hotel is in a fantastic location for the NEC and Birmingham International Rail but needs to be shaken up a bit to compete with the other options now around and about it. Pity!!

The hotel is undergoing refurbishment at the moment which meant the pool was not open which was disappointing. However the worse bit about our stay was how freezing the room was. We couldn’t get the heating to work so we complained. A maintenance man came and said that due to the refurbishment, half the rooms in the hotel did not have heating. He gave us a small electric heater which was far from adequate (it was snowing outside so it really was freezing). The staff on the reception desk did not apologise and did nit seem to care.

Didn’t like the party noise outside of my hotel room, i was moved to an alternative room, so my question is why did the Hilton Metropole allow late night function Party’s knowing full well guests would experience Noise! I would never stay at this hotel again and would advice others not to!

Location suited my purposes for work and I have stayed before on business happily Hotel was under refurbishment but this was not made clear until check in and not at time of booking. It would have affected my choice My room was in an area where the nearest lifts to the ground floor were taken over by contractors and not available to guests. According to reception staff my room was in a refurbished part of the hotel but a more accurate description would be in an area currently under refurbishment. The daily trip to my room was negotiated along corridors with rooms under refurbishment, loose cables, temporary lighting and signs and pop up banners barring entry. I respectively requested a change of room at reception on arrival and was told to see if if I could put up with it or otherwise the only alternative was a smaller room that had not been refurbished. My room clearly had not been recently refurbished with cracked tiles and mouldy sealant in the shower and faded woodwork Staff were keen to "make up for the inconvenience" and arranged perks like free breakfast for my colleague(even though I paid the whole bill and this perk was not offered to me). I found this unfair and inconsistent. Lovely staff in the lounge bar but added service charges onto numerous food and drink orders. Really?
