Function versus guest: only one winner

Posted Oct 17, 2016
Pros: the location is ok
Cons: The hotel policy to accept a function at the expense of other guests.
I booked this hotel many months in advance. I had several emails asking me if I wanted to upgrade but not one to tell me that the hotel had accepted a function booking and therefore the bar and restaurant were not available. We were not told this until we ordered a drink and were told we had to leave in 30 minutes. I spent most of my time trying to negotiate a reduction in my room rate as the hotel facilities were not available to us. In any event, this is a marginal 4 star hotel. The breakfast is set up in a function room and the whole experience was very chaotic with poor service. The room was fine but the shower was an accident waiting to happen. It was very difficult to get out of the shower with the way the doors opened and the position of the steps. Water wasn't replenished in the room for the second night. You expect better from a 4 star hotel and I would choose another one if I returned to Brussels.

one rotten apple spoils the whole bunch

I prepaid for a prestige room and breakfast for 3 nights. At check in (approx midnight) I was asked for a 150 euro deposit to be taken on credit card - I only had my debit card and was told I might have to leave without being refunded the money I had already paid if I didn't produce the cash the next day. As a single woman travelling with my teenage daughter I had booked and paid for a larger room with a double and a single bed - this room apparently doesn't exist and I was told this was expedia's fault for incorrectly advertising a service the hotel doesn't have. After reading my check-in review they back tracked on the deposit but I no longer felt comfortable after that but refused to let it ruin my trip. I was told that they could see they wouldn't get any trouble from me so they would no longer insist on the deposit - wow thanks!. They suggested I take a smaller room with two single beds but eventually agreed to move a single bed into the room. My room card was blocked the next day and the same woman asked for the deposit again before speaking to her colleagues and updating it. Most staff were friendly but some need to be retrained before receiving guests. An assumption was made about me based on looks and I was treated badly. Brussels is a beautiful city, Le Plaza is a beautiful hotel don't employ ignorant staff who will single handed ruin your reputation. I'd rather stay in a cheaper facility and have peace of mind that to be insulted like this again

Pros: Room was nice and clean.
Cons: The attitude of the front desk staff.
Location: It's close to the shopping streets. If you want to stay near Grand Place, avoid.
Requested a double bed at the front desk, and was told no problem. However, when I came back to check-in, I was taken to a room with two single beds, and the they insisted that I requested two single beds. What? At the end, the front desk staff made me pay extra for a room with a double bed. What an unpleasant experience. Also, nobody helped me with my luggage.

Great hotel in the city

We had a great experience celebrating our wedding anniversary with this hotel! Received a free upgrade and very friendly service. Room has an old school grandeur with modern amenities and a great location near the train station.

Perfect gelegen hotel

Posted Sep 4, 2016
Pros: Het gebouw, de parkeer faciliteiten, de eerste aanblik van het gebouw en de hal. Ook de ontbijtzaal boven mag er zijn.
Cons: Nederlands sprekend personeel aannemen. Hier kan het hotel niets aandoen: de Nieuwstraat is 's avonds niet pluis.
Location: Nieuwstraat, grote markt, europese wijk, manneke pis en ook de Louizalaan is op loopafstand (ong. 30 a 35 minuten lopen)

This is a beautiful hotel in the heart of Brussels. Magnificently decorated in a traditional style befitting of the building. The staff were very helpful.

Rude staff

Heard that a staff made fun of a lady customer who was very polite but spoke broken English. The bar did not open on time. Good location.
