Amazing chateau full of surprises - best pool ever
Chateau Cavanac has the most beautiful pool i have ever experienced. The food was very good but you had to have 3 courses for dinner which you can do for a couple of days but after that we would have gone out to eat dinner. The local wines that came with the meal, i thought were Good The rooms are amazing, full of old world charm (and surprises in the old tower anyway) The whole place is very peaceful and relaxed. Strongly recommended. Oh and 10 minutes drive from Carcassonne airport (also very cool).

Restaurant and choices for Sunday lunch and evening meals was excellent. Breakfast was good but basic and at 14.50 Euros seemed expensive. Couldn't fault the bedrooms and bathrooms and the hotel was very peaceful. We were disappointed that the pool facilities and loungers were already packed away by 5th October and that there was no facility for having a mid morning coffee or afternoon tea. You definitely need a car as there is no local transport and the taxis are expensive - charging 20 euros for a 3.3km journey to Carcassonne.

Everything was perfect - a gorgeous room, private balcony, great food, helpful staff, including my request to launder, but not machine dry some jeans. We took some time to walk through the village and out into the countryside and enjoyed the quiet of what felt like our private vineyard.

The property was very quite and quaint. We booked late so our room choice wasn’t great. We had to go up two flights of stairs to our room. The room was quite, clean and comfortable however one had to be careful not to bump ones head in the bathroom and bedroom. The house cleaners were not attentive as the coffee machine wasn’t cleaned for two days and they didn’t refresh the shower amenities for the three days we were there. Overall a very nice hotel. The restaurant is excellent with good choices and good service.

It's a cool chateau and the food is excellent. The rooms are decorated like the period and there's a harpsichord in the sitting area. The grounds are just lovely. The pool is beautiful as well.

Traditional chateau with good facilities
The hotel is traditional but mostly well kept. We stayed in the violette room which was bright, spacious and recently modernised. The hotel is in a very pretty setting. The terrace where breakfast and dinner is served is surrounded by mature trees and flowering plants. The swimming pool is a good size and surrounded by trees and vineyards. Breakfast is basic so overpriced at 12 euros 50 but dinner is excellent value with a 39 Euro or 45 Euro option which includes wine. Food is traditional and there are some real classic. Lamb and pork dishes were delicious. The hotel does not offer lunch or another kind of snacks outside breakfast or dinner. There is a small shop round the corner where you can buy bread, cheese, ham, water, beer and other basics. Otherwise you need a car to explore lunch options.

Disappointing
Château is very charming but very run down, service at the checking ok but very rude at check out. We found very disappointed that internet was unexiciting , did Not work in any part of the hotel, i spend one hour in the salon next to reception but no luck. In today world there is really no excuse to not provide good WiFi especialy for this price. On top of it breakfast was quite basic and when asked for egg we have been told , yet again that « machine «  is broken ???!!! Mystery to me why can’t they make egg as every one else in the pan. Breakfast was 12.5 euro which is hugly overpriced just for cold options. In all to many excuses for things which did not work. Would not recommend and definitely would not stay again . Very average experience

Delightful hotel in the heart of wine country
The Chateau is easy to find in easy reach of the historic Cité of Carcassonne. From the off the staff couldn't do enough to help us and the service throughout was exemplary. Our room was spacious, airy and very comfortable, and overlooked a delightful courtyard within the characterful old hotel. It was an easy stroll down to the restaurant for dinner, which was gorgeous each night. We enjoyed the Chateau's own wine thoroughly, but left time to visit the nearby town of Limoux with its many local vineyards too! All in all a great experience in a fantastic location, we are recommending to our friends

A charming castle minutes to Carcassone
Great charming castle, well maintained, with antique furnitures, old paintings, that brings you back into some of the most famous French Litterature novels settings ( think Balzac, Giono, Proust's atmosphere). Great restaurant serving homemade French delicacies and Occitan specialities in a garden under the trees. For a great breakfast, you'll be in another garden. Wine and products of the property are for sale too. Staff is excellent, friendly and the location is amazing, less than 10 minutes of Old Carcassone.

A great tranquil place to escape to
Everything about the hotel is understated, the spatial feel, the fantastic food, very drinkable estate wine, great location 5mins out of Carcarsonne (once you find the right roundabout), 10 mins from the airport. It is not a luxurious hotel, it's facilities include a nice pool area, tennis court, snooker room, and small gym and sauna, but I suspect the majority of the people who stay here do so for the tranquility and the excellent restaurant. Unfortunately the majority of the week we stayed it rained for half of it, so the chance of dining in the garden terraces was limited, but the restaurant has a classy quirkiness and a great atmosphere, and one of the best guest menus I have had the pleasure to consume, inclusive of wine. This hotel will not be for everyone as it can feel a bit dated and basic but elegant (it felt a bit like staying in an old relatives castle), but the staff are great and for me it has already got me planning another visit or two.

Great, but....
Ok here is how one tiny thing affects a review for an entire stay... The hotel was charming, in a sort of family run, non-chain way. The dinner was amazing with the most delicious wines I have ever tasted! The room was large, dated as regards decoration, but fine. The pool was clean, the staff were helpful... But. There's no other place nearby to eat or buy groceries. We arrived on a Monday... and the restaurant is closed on a Monday. So we went to Carcassonne, ten minutes away, and had a lovely dinner. In the morning, aware that you can't get lunch and there's nowhere to buy food nearby and we didn't want to drive out again (it was baking hot), my girlfriend started to make herself a sandwich for lunch at breakfast. And was told off like a little girl by the lady staff member present (my girlfriend is 48) and told to put her QUARTER of a baguette and cheese slice back. This is the RyanAir school of staffing. It would have been fine if she'd eaten it there and then, but carry it to the pool? Non. If you're situated in a town with no other cafe and your restaurant is shut at lunchtime, you should let people make - or even buy - something from breakfast to avoid them having to go out and find somewhere to eat in an area they don't know and where many of your guests don't speak the language very well! So. Because of that staff member, I'll also mention the intermittent power cuts, toilet without an outside window and shouty delivery men. But overall 9/10.

Beautiful old world charm
We loved it here. My French is pathetic at best but managed to get by. The wine and food at the chateau and in the restaurant were great. They make their own. Close to carcassonne for sightseeing but so nice to be out in the country. Slightly hard to find initially but easy using 'maps'. The hotel is old, not modern, but has amazing rustic charm. There is.a pool that looked nice but weather was not the best for us.

Amazing chateau experience...wonderfully decorated room in blue and yellow with long damask curtains. A big plus was the a/c in the room. Each night I had the beef filet with mushrrom sauce. Location is about three miles southwest of the Castle Carcassone. Highest rating!
