Enjoyed the Boathouse
This place was a nice lay-over after beach camping and fishing. It fit these fishermen's needs as we had planned to travel to the next camping/fishing location; however, hurricane Ian cut things short. A few things in the kitchen could improve the function of the kitchen. More than 4 forks. Need a cutting board. Need some large mixing bowls.

We had a great time. Great place for family or fishing crew. Our first time to Cedar Island and we loved it. House was well stocked and had all we needed. Only downfall to the house and area was we were definitely not prepared for the over abundance of mosquitos after dark!

Perfect for my family
The Boathouse was a perfect place for my family of 4 to stay. My husband and I could play pool, listen to music, cook a snack and do laundry downstairs at night while the kids were comfortably and quietly sleeping upstairs. The host was super friendly, responsive, and offers add-on services such as sport fishing so it’s a one-stop vacation!

Perfect for Hunting or Fishing Trip
The house was perfect for our recent stay for a duck hunting trip. The garage area downstairs was very clean and we enjoyed the large kitchen and pool table. The open concept upstairs with six beds worked great to where each hunter had their own bed. Highly recommend for a guys trip and looking forward to coming back!

I really wasn't expecting the equipment in the same space. The owner didi a good job trying to make the place comfortable. It was different but we had a good experience. The sleeping loft was very lovely and comfortable. Thank you for sharing your place.

IT’S A GARAGE!! NOT A HOUSE!!
I’m very mixed and sad that this is definitely NOT what is listed. It’s definitely NOT a 3 bedroom house. You are actually staying in their garage behind the owners house and it is converted into a man cave. You have NO PRIVACY, NO doors or blinds on the windows, so be very comfortable with who you are staying with. This would be good if it was just men having a bachelors party. NOT a Family!! I didn’t like having to cook inside a working Garage with a big truck and bigs machines in it, and it smelled like gasoline, but my 2 teenage boys loved it and the pool table was the only perk about the place. The horse flies were so bad, we where miserable. We only stayed 2 out of the 3 nights because safety was a big concern. The front door to the garage didn’t lock well so once you push on the door it opens up, so it didn’t lock well at all… so we had to prop up a chair by the front of the door. The owners are very nice and the place was very clean for what it was.. A Garage! Even with the little a/c units they had in it was still very hot. The bathroom had NO ventilation so we had to bring in a fan in there. I was very disappointed!! We had rented before from Roman last year and stayed at the other house next door and by far it was completely different by comparison. Stay at the house next door, NOT this Garage!

Refuge Among Nature
Although our VRBO search was focused on Beauford, NC, there were at the time of our late booking only two properties available. One was 6 miles away and this one that was 40- miles in distance.. Because of the unique character, description and photographs of the property located outside a National Wildlife Reserve, we thankfully made the right decision for our five member extended family by choosing the more distant of the two. We totally enjoyed being "Downeast" and plan to return again.

Misunderstood
The garage was a working garage the man cave was above the garage. Ty doesn’t work for the kids. There is no internet like it says unless you walk up to the house! The pond was BLACK. COULDN’T fish. What for real then asked for a refund refund which he did all but 100.00 I don’t know why I was there for 10 mins. SMH horrible experience. Felt like I was taken advantage of for real. Total false advertising

Just what I needed
The space is just as pictured. Nice, very clean with everything we needed and more. Roman was quickly available when I needed him and friendly to talk to. The location is remote. Next time I will bring groceries. The small store has a lot but as you would expect in a remote location it was very expensive for what we got. The pool table was a low pressure way to be playful and get to know my future daughter-in-law.

Everything was a great experience except that when I left Sunday I was covered in red itchy bug bites. Didn’t get a chance to check the sheets or beds upon leaving but it’s been pretty uncomfortable the past 2 days.

Quick Getaway
This was quick get away for a couple of days just to clear my mind after laying my Sainted Mother to rest. The “Boathouse” is exactly as pictured on the web. It was fully stocked with everything we needed. Ramon was the most gracious host I have ever stayed with. The offshore fishing excursion was the highlight of everyone’s trip. The WiFi access was very limited but that only caused the kids to have to be more engaged with us which worked to our advantage. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone. Patty

Great place for a trailered boat.
The house is a bit off the beaten path, but it affords privacy and security. It's basically a really nice detached garage with a FROG. The main beds (two fulls) are in a shared room with no divider from main living space. The couch/tv are nice, but expect to be using DVDs/Bluerays (only OTA and it's not reliable). The remaining twin beds are snuggly tucked into dormers off the main room. There's no privacy except in the bathrooms in this unit, but it is a warm comfortable feel. The downstairs is the garage/kitchen space with nice appliances, most kitchenware needed (though no dishwasher, not a big deal), and some workspace. The kitchen is open air to vehicles (no wall splitting the kitchen area from garage space). This area is very humid, so bugs (both indoor pests and outdoor biting types) abound, but the indoors didn't have any apparent infestation issues. Very clean and tidy, but to be safe any opened food or snacks were kept in the large modern fridge. The unit is cooled with window unit A/C (two upstairs, and two downstairs). They struggled a bit to pull down the temp if you're hot natured like we are, so I'd recommend getting them on asap and not turning them off (just setting them at warmer temps if you get cool). The grounds are well kept and manicured, and though the chicken coop is now defunct, it has many producing fruit trees and lush green lawns. Cedar Island is a sportsman and nature lovers area. Ample boating, included open and protected water boat ramps all around the location. There isn't much beyond a restaurant or two and a community store, but the community has a quaint feel and everyone knew our host. Roman is a lovely man. Very communicative and easy to get along with. He placed no demands on us and did everything he could to make our stay pleasant (even offering advice on the water in the area, since I brought a skiff and was unfamiliar with the water at Cedar Island). He also offers very reasonably priced charters, so inquire about that if you want a great fishing experiencing from a local expert that I believe also fishes commercially (noone knows how to find fish better than a local commercial fisherman). I look forward to return visits to enjoy the accomodations, the host, and the bounty of fish filled waters and natural spectacles with flights of pelicans, huge red drum swimming under the boat in shallow water, free ranging horses, and amazing sunrise/sunsets on the water. Go for it!

IS NOT A HOUSE IS A BIG GARAGE !!
The owner transferred the garage in a second floor dorm with 2 portable windows AC units, it was very noisy, a lot of mosquitos, no signal or WiFi, dirty linens, my 2 kids end up sleeping in the couch because the beds were full of bugs, the bathroom didn’t have an outside vent so all the steam stays inside, kitchen is downstairs in the garage and the freezer stinks, i am 100% sure that the owner leaves in the front so his back garage is the rental, it was the worst night of my life I was very concern of our safety. Don’t go by the pictures of the website, ITS NOT A HOUSE, IS A GARAGE!

Exactly how it’s portrayed
This place was great. Very clean. Country atmosphere. We had a blast hanging out by the pool table after fishing during the day. I only met the owner once and he was very nice. We plan on going back and going on one of Zak’s charters.

Wonderful place in a nice area
We were very impressed with this place. The inner was very nice and helpful. The kitchen and washer and dryer and half bath were in the garage part which was clean and very nice. The upstairs is beautifully decorated with a comfortable couch, comfy beds, and TV with DVD. Linens are provided and also basic soap and shampoo. Everything is very clean! It's close to town where there is a nice restaurant, a nice store, and the ferry to Okracoke Island. We would definitely stay there again.

Very Relaxing
If you are looking for a place to go and unplug from the world, this is the place to go. The owner was very nice, great communication and offered a nice place to rent. For me, the fact that there was no Internet was a huge plus! It was just what I was looking for. The only downside to the area is that if you are staying a few days make sure you stop in Havelock and stock up on food before you get there. There is a general store about 3 miles down the road that has a good variety of food, however it can get expensive. Other than that,, there is no downside to the experience. Loved it and will go back.

Mixed review
Pictures are accurate but the lower kitchen area is a true garage complete with large boat and suv with cement floor. Upstairs there are no true bedrooms. It is an open floor plan with 4 beds tucked in dormers and the two double beds pictured have no slider for privacy. Be very comfortable with the people you are traveling with for this rental. We had a great time with Roman on the fishing charter.
