If you need to stay in Evanston...

Posted Jan 7, 2016
Pros: Big rooms, nice staff, decent facilities.
Cons: Hopefully after renovation it'll be a great place, but maybe try not to let it intrude so much!
Location: Near the purple line, downtown Evanston is a five-minute walk.
I was pretty disappointed with my time at this hotel. I had a number of problems, but let's start with the good parts. The location is good, right near downtown Evanston and a couple of purple line stops. The staff are pretty nice and helpful, and the rooms are quite large with a nice view. The rooms are OK - old fashioned but comfortable and quiet. There are more negatives, unfortunately. The hotel, at the time of writing, is undergoing major renovation and will become a Holiday Inn in a few months. As such, the place is pretty much a building site, and the ground floor and elevators are coated with a thick layer of dust at all times. During the day it can be quite noisy, too. I wasn't told about this before choosing to stay, which is quite frustrating. Also, on the first night, my toilet broke. It was repaired within half an hour of reporting it, but it's still not great. Probably the biggest problem I had was that one morning, the emergency alarm sounded. I was quite scared, but followed the instructions and to the lobby (through the construction) and...there was no problem. When I asked the front desk, I was told to 'disregard' it, as if it was just a minor inconvenience rather than a pretty scary incident. No apology was given for scaring the life out of me and my girlfriend. It really shook me up and should not have happened. So yeah, not a great stay. But if you need somewhere to stay in Evanston...it's fine. Just don't expect anything special.

Under Renovation

Posted Jan 6, 2016
Pros: Value
Cons: Honestly in letting guests know ahead of time about renovation and services which are not currently offered.
Location: Restraunts and Chicago CTA nearby.
This hotel is currently under renovation. The lobby was obviously in process of being updated and due to this there was no free breakfast as was promised when I booked the hotel. Also the fitness room was closed due to renovations. When I expressed my disappointment over these matters the staff were happy to waive my parking fee. The room itself was clean and well maintained.. I got the room at a super deal and now I realize why. If you are not concerned with some extras and are looking for a deal this is a safe place to stay and offers good value. Just plan on no breakfast or workout room.

Good price

Posted Dec 16, 2015
Location: Great location. Walking distance to grocery stores and other stores.
This hotel is becoming Holiday Inn. There was no breakfast when we were there because of transition and construction. Staff was VERY accommodating. We would go to this hotel again.

Comfortable for a one night stay

Posted Dec 7, 2015
Pros: Comfortable bed/pillows/sheet/comforter. Clean shower with ample room
Cons: Please offer tea bags in room and lobby. Those simple things make a difference.
Location: Northwestern University
I choose this hotel because of its price which online included breakfast, and its proximetry to Northwestern University- it was walking distance to our students' dorm. However, upon check in, I was informed that there was no longer any continental breakfast (diabetics have to plan for food nearby- I was out of luck!) due to construction. It would have been best to have been informed of this when booking. There was only coffee in the lobby and in rooms- no tea bags. the bed and pillows were very comfortable, the shower clean and roomy. Our room was way too hot even set at 60 degrees. For one night, it was fine. More than 1 night and I would have switched hotels, I think.

Old, outdated and rude

Posted Dec 3, 2015
This is not a Best Western chain anymore as they are going under renovation. The enterence smells horrible with dust from the construction. The lady at the reception, before a welcome says that breakfast service has ended and that it was my fault I made the reservation through Expedia. Other staff seemed nice so what a pitty. Well what am I to say if they take reservations under the 'Best Western' but when you come to stay they say they are independently operating and won't provide the amenities they promised. Never again.

Good average hotel. Only a block or 2 from a variety of restaurants. better than average breakfast included. Irish pub directly across the street.

I plan to stay again soon. I travel to Chicago often. I like the prices and the ability to access the train to go to the city.
