"Lovely Bed 'n Breakfast "
Lovely hotel, clean, friendly staff, great location within walking distance to St Mark's square giving you a look at so many wonderful places in Venice/Gondolas etc. We would recommend Avogaria Locanda to anyone looking for accommodation close to where the cruise lines depart from. We loved it !

"Charming hotel with a great staff."
The hotel staff welcomed us with a glass of Presecco and warm attention to every question. They worked diligently to help us resolve a train reservation issue, and recommended fabulous restaurants in the local area. The location is in walking distance of the train station which was very helpful. The water taxi to St. Marks and the central region was approx 30 minutes and walking was about 15 minutes. Thus the location is not in the center of Venice but relatively easy to access. The nightly happy hour was a pleasant way to end a day of touring.

"If we come back, we'll stay at the Palazzo Stern"
We (my sisters and I) have few complaints about our stay at the Palazzo Stern. The location in the Dorsoduro district of Venice was perfect. Away from the "maddening crowds," yet close enough to all the places a typical tourist would visit while in Venice. The complimentary breakfast buffet was a big hit with us because they offered real eggs, bacon, ham, fried potatoes, croissants, pastries, various fruits and juices. This was an American breakfast, something seldom found in European hotels. The hotel was located within walking distance to small shops, a marvelous gelato store, a couple of very good restaurants, and the fabulous Venice Jazz Club. Lastly, the hotel had its own private dock for receiving water taxis. It is also located a few yards from the Ca' Rezzonico waterbus stop on the Orange No. 1 public waterbus line which takes you to San Marco Square and all the major sites. We easily got around Venice because of the location of the Palazzo Stern.

"Great hotel on the Grand Canal"
Fantastic location with a stunning view of the grand canal and a charming terrace by the water. Our room was comfortable however not in great decorative order however this certainly didn't spoil our stay.

Belle Arti Hotel

Rio Terrà Foscarini, 912/A, Venice 30123 - Map
"Excellent location"
This is an impressive-looking hotel from the outside: I noticed many passers-by pause to look inside. The ground floor has lots of the faded elegance which middle of the range Venetian hotels seem to specialise in. Its location in a quiet street less than 2 mins walk from the Accademia and the Accademia vaproretto stop is excellent and very convenient. The covered terrace seating area overlooking the garden was very pleasant - my visit was in October and it turned out to be just the place to sit and watch the rain fall in comfort. I had booked the room as a single room and it was sufficient for my needs as I was hardly in it . The bathroom was astonishingly small: the smallest I've ever seen. I'm only average size and had some difficulty using it: anyone larger might have had real difficulty. The bathroom really needed some modernisation: it was frankly tatty around the edges but it and the the room were clean. Breakfast was once again standard for a hotel in its price range: a mix of rolls, cheeses and cold meats - anyone looking for the eggs, bacon and sausages would have been disappointed. Breakfast orange juice was rather thin squash: a real negative from my point of view. Overall, a so-so experience, but I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if the price were right.

Pocket Guide: Dorsoduro, Venice Romantic Hotels

Dorsoduro is home to the great art institutions of the Gallerie dell'Accademia and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and the landmark church of Santa Maria della Salute. However those who take the time to explore the area, and particularly the eastern section, will find some of Venice’s most picturesque squares and alleys. The area also benefits from the influence of the university with some lively bars and nightlife (rare in Venice).
