Remodeled Barn in Champlain Valley, Essex, NY

The barn that is attached to my 200 year old home was rebuilt in 2019 into an amazing 1 bedroom, 1 bath retreat. It is spacious, well equipped and dreamy. After the full re-build, the barn is now a highly efficient timber-frame hybrid living space using both original, re-claimed materials and the latest in energy-efficient products.

The area is serene and surrounded by beauty yet close to of all types of excitement. There are well maintained hiking trails within walking distance, you can take the ferry to Burlington for restaurants and shopping or hop the train to Montreal. The food movement is in full swing up here and that is another enjoyable attraction. In the town of Essex, there is a wonderful yoga studio, the Lake Champlain Yoga & Wellness, several restaurants and interesting history.

The barn is a quiet and private getaway with mountain views, 3.5 miles from Essex and Lake Champlain--comfortable year round, with A/C in the summer and efficient heat and a wood stove for the cold months. The photos say it all!

Amazing. Wouldn't change a thing and wish I were still there!
This place is a unique gem. It was very comfortable, clean, and cozy, and I loved the design and furnishings so much. The location was beautiful and peaceful. It was far enough away to feel like you were getting away yet close enough to amenities, unique stores, Lake Champlain, Burlington, VT, and the Adirondacks to the West. The natural setting was charming, and the friendly goats and hens added to that charm. Audrey was very friendly and the perfect host. I can't thank her enough for letting me stay at her special place, and I hope to visit again.

The owner was exceptionally friendly and helpful with information about local activities and restaurants. The cabin was wonderfully appointed and very comfortable. Next time we choose to travel to this lovely region of the Adirondack this will be our accommodations of choice.

A Gem in Essex Countryside!
Refreshing, and Unique! That’s I would describe my stay at Audrey’s cabin. A very well thought out and eclectic decor for a small barn/cabin. There are animals to enjoy, countryside vistas, and you can see great sunsets, Camel’s Hump, Mount Mansfield, VT, across Lake Champlain. The drive there alone is very relaxing. There are several small towns in the area with crafts (Wood, pottery, ironwork), small cafes with local food and nice people to talk to. Very close to the Ferry as well, and 2 hours from Montreal, QC. Started the New Year there, with cool, crisp Winter air. I will definitely plan on returning in different seasons.

Relaxing
My wife and I were so comfortable and relaxed during our stay. The barn was just perfect, fully equipped kitchen, the restored barn was wanting for nothing. We enjoyed meeting the fouls and goats, and the scenery was just beautiful. Wonderful place to spend quiet time. Enjoyed meeting and chatting with the owner the day of our departure as well. Keith

Beautiful space and location!
This is an idyllic renovated barn, which is new and beautifully decorated. We loved the space! We didn't need it, but there is air conditioning. It is quiet and rural. The owner is just lovely, and we met her sweet dogs while we were there. If you wish you can visit her dwarf goats, which are really cute. The location is like a country paradise- conveniently located near the Essex, which is very pretty. There is a convenient car (or bike) ferry if you wish to take a quick jaunt over to VT, so there is a lot to do in a 30 mile radius. If you like biking, walking or jogging, these hills are made for you. Audrey supplies lots of brochures for activities, hiking, sightseeing and dining. This is one of our new favorite areas in New England and we hope to come back some day!

Adirondack Getaway
My husband and I had a wonderful time at the barn. From the moment I walked in I fell in love with it’s charm. It is filled with natural light and very charmingly furnished. It is also very comfortable and has everything you may need for an enjoyable stay. I hope to return one day in the fall to enjoy the wood burning stove and see the leaves change.

Relaxing
This property was very well-appointed. Full fridge and kitchen, including a gas range, all the pots and pans a good cook would appreciate, eclectic dishes. The renovated 'barn' is efficient and very comfortable. In fact, I would say that while the pictures give a pretty good idea of what to expect, the property over-delivered. It's beautiful. Audrey was very friendly and attentive. There is a great little 'guidebook' regarding local recommendations. Do yourself a favor and listen to Audrey. This is definitely a place to come to wind down and relax. Easy daily walks with our dog, lots of trails in the woods, and local mountains. The property is within easy drive of many destinations - VT, Lake Placid, Plattsburgh. We can highly recommend this property to others.

Awesome cozy rustic getaway
Although it was the coldest weekend with below zero temps this was the best place to escape relax and crank up the wood stove. Beautifully decorated converted barn had all the comforts of home. We wanted to snowshoe on the trail system but it was too cold. Would love to go back in the Fall and do some hiking.

Simply Stunning
My spouse and I stayed in this stunner and had a hard time leaving. The modern farmhouse accommodations oozed charm and relaxation in a glorious setting. While there, we were visited by guinea fowl, turkey, deer and coyote (we only heard the coyote). We were also able to spend a little time with the resident goats and neighbor’s cows. The home is within walking distance to many hiking trails. We hope to return to take advantage of the wood burning stove and a snowy landscape.

Fantastic stay!
My wife and I absolutely loved our stay! The barn house was a great blend of rustic and modern, situated on a little slice of heaven just outside of Essex. Audrey provides her guests with all the information to help plan adventures, and the barn has all the amenities one could ask for in a comfortable stay. We would definitely make a return visit. Thank you, Audrey!

An amazing oasis in a fairly remote part of the Adirondack Mountains!
This is a beautiful, quiet, and spacious renovation of a barn in a field into a perfect one bedroom cabin. The exposed and recovered wood are warm and inviting, as are the living, kitchen, and bedroom spaces. The living room is wood, comfy couches, tables, and full of nicknacks that are inviting and homey. The bedroom is quiet, light filled, and has a great bathroom that's large and bright. The kitchen is where the true magic happens however, and where I'll expand. You know those VRBO kitchens that are have terrible pots, pans, and utensils that are bought at Walmart and thrown into an otherwise empty drawer? Think of the EXACT OPPOSITE of that, and you have this kitchen. (Former culinary professional here.) This place has everything you could ever imagine and want in a kitchen space to create meals for your family. The workspace overlooks the living room up a scissor staircase, and is completely stuffed with gadgets, pots, pans, cutting board, sharp knives, doo-dads of every shape and size. Seriously, like walking into the kitchen of someone who really knows what they're doing in the kitchen - it's all here. It's a great space to work in, and there was literally nothing that wasn't there. Show your love for your family by cooking - go here. And get your foodstuffs at the Hub on the Hill - just amazing. And there are goats and guinea hens who are awesome. ;) Audrey is a great host and really cares about providing for her guests. It shows in how everything was at this amazing place!
