"I come to the Heidelberg area often for business, and when I do, I stay at Villa Marstall if at all possible. It is a carefully restored private villa right in the heart of everything, yet on a very quiet street facing the incredibly beautiful Neckar river panorama. The staff is friendly--it feels almost like a really nice B&B--and the breakfasts are delicious. I don't know quite why, but this is one of my favorite stays in all my frequent travels."

The on-site restaurant had wonderful food, and the selection of beer and wine rounded out the evening. I have to say the staff was remarkable. "The Gästehaus Sonnenwirth is a fully automated establishment and its checkin system is just the beginning of its problems. We’d prepaid through Expedia but the checkin software couldn’t find the booking. The entrance lobby holds two people and three’s a crowd - the automatic door kept opening and we were battered with rain and hail so we did not enjoy trying to solve the Sonnenwirth’s software problems. The Expedia contact number was answered once by a man who said,”You need to speak to my wife” and after that the number did not answer. The phone number on the checkin screen answered “We are temporarily away from the phone”. This place is the definition of inhospitable but seems attractive to couples who prefer to be anonymous. "
