Beautifully Restored Detached Stone House

Situated in its own grounds in a hamlet between Megrit and Jugon Les Lacs. Jugon is a ‘petit cite de caricature de Bretagne’. The medieval town of Dinan is 20 minutes away and the northern coast (including ferry at St Malo) is 40 minutes.
The house is built in stone and enjoys a large garden. Ground floor: New Kitchen/Breakfast room, Dining room (one wall of renovated stone with decorative arch and large Breton fireplace), Study, Living room, (wood burning stove), bathroom and laundry room. First Floor: 3 double bedrooms (2 double and 1 twin/double with play station 3 for the kids), and 3 bathrooms all ensuite. Second Floor: 1 huge double bedroom and ensuite living room (suitable for family). FREE ENGLISH and FRENCH SATELLITE TV and FREE WI FI INTERNET. A heated communal outdoor swimming pool is just 5 minutes away by the side of the lake in high season.

Property Location: Le Tertre de Fresne is situated in its own enclosed, extensive grounds in a very quiet hamlet mid-way between the picturesque towns of Megrit and Jugon Les Lacs. A tarred single-track road leads to the hamlet, which contains about 10 houses, including a working dairy farm (ideal for children!). Megrit and Jugon are both about 5 minutes away by car and contain a number of local shops and other facilities. Jugon, in particular, is a really pretty town. It is a ‘petit cite de caractere de Bretagne’, with a lovely traditional town square with a boulongerie (for freshly baked croissants etc!), charcuterie, grocery, post office and banks. The town also contains a number of excellent restaurants, including a creperie, and traditional French bistro with set menus from about 10 Euro (we recommend this one particularly highly!). Jugon also has swimming and sporting facilities.

Local Attractions: About 20 minutes away is the medieval town of Dinan, which contains numerous restaurants, cafes, art and craft shops, medieval sites (castle, walls, churches etc.). The town is divided into two; the main part is surrounded by medieval walls and castle, with lovely cobbled streets and out door cafes. The second part is located around the small port on the river, with more restaurants and boat cruises to St Malo, Dinard or even the Channel Islands. Dinan also has a superb hyper-market on its outskirts (Le Clerc) which is open 6 days a week, including lunchtimes! The property is very conveniently located for reaching the northern coast. Resorts such as Dinard, St Jacut, Erquy etc, with their great beaches, are all a maximum of 40 minutes away. There are also many inland sites reachable within roughly the same time such as medieval Josselin and Moncontour.

Getting there: The closest channel port is St Malo, which is only 40 minutes away, but Cherbourg, Caen etc (with their faster crossings) are still only 3 hours drive away. It is possible to come via the Channel Tunnel, but be prepared for about a 6 hour drive!

The nearest airport is Dinard which is only 40 minutes away. Rennes is the next closest at about an hour and it takes approximately 4 - 5 hours to drive from Paris (all autoroute, except the last few miles)

A relaxing, peaceful stay in a spacious property
This property was located in a peaceful, rural location. There were plenty of seating areas both inside and outside. The house was very well-equipped and very comfortable. There was a constant supply of hot water. The owner sent us plenty of detailed information, prior to our arrival and checked in with us during the stay and on departure. The extensive library, board games and videos were appreciated. Les Vignes was a great place for our family holiday.

Lovely property
We really enjoyed our visit, we stayed over new year, it is in a lovely location with very good walks nearby and further afield. We love cooking and were delighted to find that the house is very well equipped with all kitchen and dining facilities. We lit the fires, although the house is very warm with efficient heating. Highly reccommended.

The house was a lovely place to stay and. we enjoyed our stay. Just one thing would have helped us that being the name of the property as we got a little lost finding it. That said I would stay there again and recommend it highly. Thanks

4 go to Brittany
What a fabulous place to stay in Brittany. The accommodation was clean and tidy with all you could need and plenty of room. The house was a little cold as we visited in early May, but shortly after lighting the log burner it was lovely and toastie. Once the sun came out there was plenty of seats and different seating areas around the garden to make the most of. The location was perfect, 40 minutes to the North coast and the wonderful scenery around Cap Frehel, 25 minutes to the beautiful medieval town of Dinan, and an hour from the stunning Mont St Michel. A 10 minute drive to the town of Jugon-Les-Lacs provided the bakery for breakfast and two very good evening meals in Le Donatello. The perfect place to stay to relax, as so quiet, and yet close enough to explore the delights Brittany has to offer.

Lovely, characterful, big French house in lovely peaceful setting
We had a lovely week at Les Vignes. The house is everything you would imagine from a big, old, characterful, French house. The amount of space was brilliant for us with two teenage boys, but in the evenings we all gathered together in the lounge to enjoy a blazing log fire and have some great family time watching films together. The house was very well equipped and we were able to cook and prepare meals just as we would at home. The washing machine etc all worked perfectly which was important for us as we travelled light and did do a couple of washes. Our boys enjoyed the luxury of having a large bedroom and en suite each, as did we. There was a further massive room on the third floor that we didn’t use. The garden was lovely with good bbq facilities, fresh herbs for cooking and badminton and boules for the kids. Jugon-les-Lacs was definitely the best, nearest village to go to each day for bread (5 mins drive) and had 3 to 4 places to eat and a supermarket open for long hours each day and also Sunday mornings. We also made use of the swimming pool at Jugon-les-Lacs which is part of a campsite but open to the public for a relatively small fee. Mégrit which is the other nearest village is worth visiting, but now only has a small tea shop rather than a bakers, so best to go for afternoon tea or a delicious homemade ice cream later in the day. Dinan and Dinard are an easy drive away and the beaches at St Briac Sur Mer and St Lunair are a must if the weather is good. Overall we had a wonderful, peaceful and relaxing week in a big, old and characterful French house which we would highly recommend.

Traumatic..worst experience I have ever had on a holiday
With my wife and two friends who had never been to France, we planned to stay at Les Vignes for 21 days. From the description of the property and it's location it seemed ideal for us. To say our stay has been very disappointing is a gross understatement...it was tantamount to disastrous. The overall cleanliness of the property left a lot to be desired (the BBQ needs condemned, the place was covered in cobwebs, the doors didn't close properly etc. etc.) and whilst described as 5 minutes from the village of Jugon Les Lacs it was more like a 10/15 minute drive! Ther was no telephone signal and no wifi connection......facilities which were crucial to our stay and clearly advertised. This fact was immediately made known to the owner at the outset but it took almost a week to convince him of this. At the end of our first week there was a thunderstorm while we were away from the property and on our return the TV lounge and the study were flooded and rendered out of use. This necessitated a move out of the property for the two weeks remaining of our holiday to another farmhouse on the outskirts of Jugon Les Lacs which the manager sourced for us. This property was pre-booked by other clients for the final three days of our holiday and we had to move again! The upheaval cost us another two days of our stay Whilst the owner funded the cost of our remaining accommodation there has been no apology except by his manager who was extremely sympathetic to our situation, but there has been no offer of any compensation. The very least we could have expected is a refund for the days we spent in Les Vignes and the two days lost in transferring to other properties...a total of 9 days and a personal apology from the owner. We are all in our 70's and found the whole experience both traumatic and potentially health threatening.

Had a lovely week in a peaceful idyllic setting. Fantastic value for money.
We enjoyed a family break in this lovely stone cottage. There was loads of space for all 9 of us. We were able to visit many beautiful places including St Malo, St Cast le Guido beaches, the impossibly pretty town of Dinan as well as charming Jugon les Lac. We enjoyed the house which was great for enjoying a family BBQ in a pretty setting. We all had fun playing badminton too. Great value for money, would highly recommend.

The cottage was in a lovely quite location with everything we needed for a great holiday.
We have recently stayed in this lovely character cottage with another family. The facilities were really good with a well equipped kitchen, utility room (if you needed it) and really good sized rooms, most with en suite. The cottage was a good size and we all fitted very comfortably and had plenty of room. The cottage makes a great retreat after a day out. We spent a lot of time in the beautiful, historic town of Dinan which is only about twenty minutes away. We hired bikes from the local village of Jugon-les-Lacs and rode around the quiet roads surrounding the cottage. Doing, this you really get a good leisurely look at the wonderful peaceful countryside surrounding the cottage. In two hours we were only passed by two cars and a tractor! The cottage is also only about 50 minutes for St Malo - again well worth a day's visit. Stuart and Julia were very helpful throughout. McDonald and Olden families

A charming and spacious house. We felt right at home and had a great Brittany holiday thanks to it!
The house has plenty of room: it slept 9 (5 adults and 4 children) in perfect comfort. Stuart gave us extremely useful information ahead of and during our stay. "Les Vignes" is remote and in the countryside -- which is exactly what we were looking for. The town of Jugon-les-Lacs is nearby (6 km) and has all the everyday shopping and small restaurants. The bakery there is amazing. You will eat excellent bread, croissants and pains au chocolat every day! The kitchen is not completely new, but it is well renovated and did work perfectly well. There's plenty of hot water for everyone and enough bathrooms and toilets, too. The satellite TV with UK programmes is a big plus. The garden is absolutely lovely. It has lots of space for the kids to play and the grown-ups to sit and relax. There is an English-speaking house manager who lives nearby and can sort out any problems you may have with the property right away. If you want to explore the northern and central parts of Normandy, this location is ideal. We loved the beach at Perros-Guirec, which is just over a 1-hr drive away. The Côte du Gratit Rose and Sentier des Douaniers are amazing! We did not go all the way west, or to the southern coast, because we ran out of time and because the drive would have been too long for us. But there's so much to explore in a 1.5-hr radius that this did not matter. We loved Brittany. We are very grateful to Stuart and his house for helping us discover it! Eric Hess and Golly Sattar

Large, beautiful and peaceful home
We all really enjoyed our stay. The property has character and is large and spacious inside. Plenty of room for large groups to spread out in. Nice and clean with plenty of kitchen accessories. Loads of books to read and on the last day we found the box of toys upstairs too, oops, the kids never even spotted them hehe. The bedrooms are all very large and very comfortable, the showers all great with good water pressure. It's very handy to have use of the washing machine too. Granny and gramps bought their fold up bikes with them and went for rides round the area, the roads are quiet and open so safe for cycling. The owners are very helpful and responsive. Situated in between jurgan les lacs and megrit it really feels like your out in the sticks with a couple of other houses for company, a lovely pretty garden to sit in and enjoy the quiet. Our two young boys loved popping out to wave at the tractor doing his rounds and to see the cows in the field. They also enjoyed taking it in turns to help granny do the watering. Megrit is the sleepier of the two villages but does have a bread shop that is good. jurgan les lacs is very pretty with a good super market, a good bread shop and a handful of good restaurants and a post office. The lake at jurgan is huge and beautiful and although we didnt participate there was lake activities available. The area is all very well kept. We also spent a lot of time in Dinan as its so lovely and only a 20 min drive, we made it to the coast in half an hour, lovely beaches. This house was a great base to see this part of the country and I would definitely consider staying here again some day. Thanks again to the owners.
