Stunning property with friendly staff, great surrounding area, and the perfect Lisbon escape. I now recommend anyone coming to stay here as it’s the perfect location between old and new, with a range of lovely restaurants, cafes, and shops nearby. The rooms are beautifully done, and as a small hotel you get the quintessential feeling! A must visit.
Everyone was fantastic, this is a well run hotel with attention to detail. The people at the hotel are fantastic. The hotel is in a great place. Breakfasts were great and the upstairs library is a fantastic place to relax with coffee or wine.
If you’re in search of a well appointed traditional boutique hotel, this is exactly what you want. I absolutely loved this hotel from the friendly staff (Maria) to the quaint decor. This hotel is amazing!!!
This is a lovely hotel and I can't wait to go back. Staff are fantastic. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet and all the space that we needed. Breakfast was delicious. The rooftop terrace was a fantastic spot to finish the day. The breakfast terrace was beautiful, but it was a little too chilly to enjoy in February.
The location is a bit of a hike to the main action of Lisbon, but we liked that and walked everywhere. Busses are convenient if that is the option you prefer.
I am looking forward to staying here again.

Dear Sheila Ann,Thank you for staying with us and for your nice review! We are happy to know that you had a lovely stay with us and that you're already looking forward to returning. We are glad that you found our staff fantastic and that you enjoyed the comfort and tranquility of your room. It is also wonderful to know that you found our breakfast delicious and that you were able to enjoy our rooftop terrace as a fantastic spot to unwind at the end of the day. We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed our location. As Janelas Verdes is situated in the neighborhood of Lapa, an historic district that retains much of its traditional charm. This area is not so crowded and touristic as other historic quarters, like Bairro Alto and Chiado, but near enough to tranquilly walk there, enjoying the local flair on the way.We can't wait to welcome you back for another wonderful stay. Until then, safe travels and we look forward to hosting you again soon!Warmest regards,Diogo LaranjoGeneral Manager
The hotel is a lovely historic building and the staff are fabulous. They need to rethink their dining arrangements to make it work better. This is more than compensated for by the quality of their offering. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.
This is not a hotel !
We left the “hotel” before we check in!
Everything is old and dirty smell bad… very disappointed !
We have to move to an other hotel at Sofitel

Dear David,We acknowledge your feedback, but it's important to highlight that your review doesn't seem to be a serious evaluation. Your decision to leave before check-in, driven by a desire to stay at a friend's hotel, influenced the tone of your comments. Notably, you did not provide any comments regarding the property being 'old.' We want to emphasize that our establishment prides itself for its cleanliness and its charm as a boutique hotel from the 18th century, and it requires a certain cultural appreciation and sophistication to distinguish between the vintage charm and an outdated appearance. We will keep working hard to provide a service of excellence from which we are recognized.Best regards,Diogo LaranjoGeneral Manager
Great area just outside the hustle of the busier areas. Very accommodating staff and great breakfast buffet.

This is a beautiful property. The thing that ruined my stay was that I was in room 1 and the kitchen is right by my room. I'm not sure why there are so many loud sounds coming from the kitchen all night long but there are. I'm talking pans falling on the floor at 1 a.m., dishes clinking at 2:30 a.m., the dishwasher being loaded at 11:30 p.m. I'm sure if you stay on an upper floor this isn't a problem but I wouldn't stay on the first floor. It really is gorgeous but to be able to sleep is number one for travel. I finally remembered to go buy earplugs and then I also turned my rain app up to as high as it would go and finally slept some the last night there. The staff is really kind and I probably should have told them about this on day one. I have trouble believing they don't know how noisy it is for the first floor rooms though.

Excellent Historical hotel in Lisbon center. Staying second time and confirming the great value of hotel and service provided. This is my first choice to stay in Lisbon.
Staff was excellent , its away from the touristy places , so you may have to uber or walk here - about 20 min walk
But its super quiet , only noise I heard was from neighboring room , safe neighborhood
Will stay again
Excellent hotel in very central part of Lisbon. Hotel has Historical charm. Close to everything, but on quiet street. Excellence service, Delicious breakfast. Terrace bar with the river view. Best experience in Portugal.
This hotel was an absolute gem. Not far from downtown in the historical areas, but in a residential place. The hotel really captures the mood of Portugal. The decor, the terrace the library are wonderful.
The staff was very pleasant. The front desk manager Elsa was very caring and concerned. We had a wonderful stay at this inn. The rooms are lovely. Everything about the place was wonderful. My only regret is we had to leave.

Loved this hotel. Very charming little boutique hotel with a wonderful view from the library. Breakfast in the garden was beautiful. The hotel location was great but walking was difficult because of the hills

Dear Philip,Thank you for staying with us and for your feedback. We are very happy to read that you enjoyed your stay and in particular the bay view from the library terrace and our small garden. As Janelas Verdes is located in the Lapa district, a historic district that has retained much of its traditional charm. Our location in reality is far enough from the very touristic quarters but near enough to be able to walk there, enjoying the local atmosphere on the way. It is a flat area along the Tagus river and you can use the old Bica funicular, near Time Out Market, to reach Chiado and Bairro Alto, through one of the most picturesque streets of Lisbon which is Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo.We look forward to welcoming you again to our beautiful city. This hotel is very quaint and cozy. The breakfast buffet is very good, to include make-your-own mimosas, which is fantastic. The decor is so homely, it almost feels like you're staying at a relative's house rather than a hotel. I was enthralled by all the hotel's amenities and the excellent and friendly staff.

Its an old property with friendly staff. There almost is nothing interesting close by. far away from attractions. Bathroom didn't have airflow and was very hot inside the bathroom. if you like heritage the hotel itself is an attraction.

This was a BEAUTIFUL hotel that was cozy and inviting. The staff was welcoming and the room was beautiful. We were able to walk to many dining options and the view from the third floor area was gorgeous! We loved it here...
The hotel itself was great, but the area around it was in need of facelift. The hotel had parking which was essential. Staff was accommodating. The old world charm was lovely.
One if the most beautiful boutique hotels I have been in it. I really enjoy my stay. The staff are very friendly. The best thing is I felt home during my stay. The breakfast is delicious and fresh. The hotel has character. Make sure you have enough time to spend in the rooftop library and beautiful overlooking the water and Almada town. Location is good. 10 minutes walk yo the city center. Generally in Lisbon, Uber is very cheap. The hotel is very clean. Quiet and cosy. Highly recommend this hotel.
Such a lovely hotel that wrapped its arms around with warmth and hospitality. Gracious rooms with special touches such as port in the room, architectural details and an honor bar in the wood paneled library overlooking the water. Lovely !!!
