We stayed at the Country Place for two nights in late November 2015. The hotel's gardens and common-area facilities are excellent and well-stocked; the availability of coffee, teas and chocolate 24-7 is a nice touch. The staff were welcoming and the neighbourhood peaceful.
On our first night, we basically had the entire place to ourselves. Probably because of the lack of guests, it seems the departing night manager forgot that we were staying and so turned off all the lights in our wing! It made for some entertaining fantasies about the zombie apocalypse!
The following morning, the reception staff member was extremely embarrassed and apologetic about the lights and organised a complimentary fruit basket for our room to emphasise just how sorry the manager was for the oversight. Such gestures go a long way towards making up for small errors and overall there was no harm done. A couple of surprising things was the absence of a mini bar fridge, which would have been convenient for us, as being vegan, we usually bring much of our own food when we travel, because of the lack of available vegan eateries. So, how do you keep your Soy milk cold when there's no fridge? The other surprise was just how small the en-suite was. The space between the hand-basin and the shower was ridiculously small!
Should we stay again, we'll certainly ask for a room with a proper bathroom attached.
