I have stayed here several times in the last 12 months, and each time I have found my room to be spotless. The bathrooms are clean, no mould spots, the beds are comfortable and the bedding also is spotless. Sure, it is a very old building (there is a plaque on the outside wall which says that someone of note died there in the 1850s) and it retains a lot of its original character. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the reception desk is manned 24 hours per day. The hotel is located in the Historic Centre of Mexico City, about a 10 minute walk from the zocalo. Several pedestrians only streets make this a colourful and interesting exercise. I have not felt uncomfortable or uneasy walking round this area in the evening. The restaurant does great breakfasts, also lunch and dinners. If you are looking for the Hilton, this hotel is not for you, but if you are looking for a basic but clean, comfortable hotel, Hotel Isabel should be right for you.

Old Hotel, convenient location. Staff were very friendly and helpful, always took care of us. Little noisy from the street but worth it for the walking distance to the center of the city.

Liked being in the Historic District, close to museums & the Zocalo. Staff was helpful, room was simple and affordable, restaurant on the premises was convenient, location felt safe. Driver Benito was reliable and pleasant.

It was in a great location, price was a good bargain, simple for just basic need of having a place to retreat to when visiting the city. More filtered water available would be nice. Maybe a fan in each room.

Pros - Centrally located in historic downtown, old architecture nice, beds firm, bathrooms clean, onsite restaurant for easy breakfast. Cons - Street facing rooms are noisy especially neighboring roof top disco is loud until 3 or 4 AM. Inside facing rooms much quieter but not much air flow or breeze, so hot.

The Hotel Isabel is well located, a short walk from the Zocalo and in the other direction the Belles Artes, useful as it was pick-up point for tours. It was very atmospheric especially the courtyards and my room was large, airy and had a balcony. But it was noisy outside on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Nice and clean hotel in an antique building in the historic centre of CDMX. Near to Zocalo with tons of local stores and restaurants around for every budget. Staff is friendly, polite, and willing to help. There is a good restaurant attached to it and a small bar too.

First a warning--One side of this corner hotel faces Terraza Dos Equis, an open air, rooftop club with pounding music amd screaming patrons from late afternoon until early morning. If you are one who needs fresh air from an open window you will have the club in your room pounding away. With windows closed, and earplugs in you will have no air (no fans in room) but the potential to relax or sleep a litttle, but forget about communicating with your fellow travelers. That being said, the hotel can't help that its noisy, and it is otherwise a cute, homey hotel with a fun restaurant with comida packets and a great little bar to chill at (when theyre not blasting karaoke.) Its in an excellent location with the L4 metrobus right there, and walking distance to many sites and excellent informal delicious and cheap restaurants. Sadly, because of the noise, we would not go back. City noise is one thing, (we're New Yorkers) but blaring music (and an all day Sunday tea party) does not make for a relaxing stay. Stay away if you need at least a modicum of quiet at some point in your room.

Hotel Isabel is not the Ritz Carlton, but it’s less than 1/12 the price. It’s much older and funkier. Everything about it has a fair amount of funk, from the bar to the restaurant to the lobby to the rooms. I mean funk in a good way, as in character. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room and the common areas were very clean. This was during the COVID pandemic. The hotel had fairly extensive Covid protocols but they were not overbearing. Our only complaint was a slow-draining shower combined with a very shallow basin. This caused the bathroom to have 1/2 inch of water covering its floor after a shower. We had to use one of our two towels to contain the water. This issue would probably cost big $$$ to repair. We would definitely stay here again.

Great place in the historic center of Mexico city
We come here for years, the hotel is in a great location, safe, great staff, very clean, I could not find a grain of dust anywhere. Also, the restaurant attached to the hotel is very convenient, very nice staff, print service.

Good location, large room with balcony and high ceilings, reasonably priced, currency exchange on-site. However, they spray you down with disinfectant every single time you enter the hotel. One day they sprayed me FOUR times. I left my nightgown folded on my bed when I left for the day, and when I returned that evening they had saturated it with disinfecting spray, too. It was too much.

Worst hotel in Mexico City.
The over night clerk was very rude to me and tried to over charge me for having two friends stay over, instead of offering another room for them. He refused to give me the key to my room so I could get my luggage and passport so I had to go break the door and retrieve my items and go stay in another hotel instead and was not refunded my money for the two nights I had already paid for, on top of that they charged me $2,000. pesos under the table to fix the door and didn’t get a receipt for the proof of payment. I will never recommend this hotel to anyone and will actually recommend the management to properly train their staff to descálzate problems and not cause to escalate to such extreme measures.

Toxic Chemicals
Too much Covid cleaning! They are taking it too far where it's a toxic scary experience staying there, They spray you every time you want to leave or enter, treating you like a criminal in jail! The staff walks around in hazmat suits spraying toxic chemicals all day. It gave me a head ache, had to leave early

The hotel is centrally located which is a plus but the noise of the cars at night is a minus. Hotel old by the newer standards, but has its appeal. Disappointingly, at the time I was there, the elevators are not in service due covid. 62 steps to 3rd flr is quite a workout/endurance cardiac challenge. Other than that, amenities a minimum, good water flow for an old bldg, the rooms are huge. Will definitely make use of it again. Hoping th3 elevators will be of service by then.

A gem in the historic downtown of Mexico City
First, my flight was late so I called from the airport 1 am is it possible to arrive in. Th polite gentlemen on the reception helped me a lot with the arrival - from providing the full information to the help with the luggage. For the asked price, the historic building ,very spacious room with the natural wooden floor, metal carved balcony with historic colonial building view, huge patio with live plants, sparkling clean - was amazing. the hotel takes serious precaution about Covid - temperature screening, disinfection of every guests. the staff is wearing face masks + face shields. the cleaning lady wore the yellow sanitation outfit, looked pretty much like ones in hospital. easy access to anything, by walk or bus. The reception staff speaks English, overall excellent service from all the team. i planned to stay 1 night and end up of 3. thank you, highly recommend

Staff very friendly and helpful. Fully bilingual, spoke English very well. Very beautiful historical hotel in the historic district of Mexico City. Front entrance doors locked at 10 p.m. requiring guest to buzz to be let in by security guard. Very safe inside and outside hotel. Starbucks 1 block away if one is into that. Would highly recommend Hotel Isabel to anyone wanting a safe, clean, historical hotel with tons of character within a 5 minute walk to the Cathedral, the Palace etc etc. Great food in restaurant of hotel too.

It was great to be so close to downtown The staff were excellent - helpful and kind. The noise from the club across the road was high on weekends and my room was next to someone who LOVED soccer so I heard many of the games. For the price its great but could do with some upgrading. I wish the bar was not so dominated by men. I would have often liked to have a drink but it was quite off putting.

We liked our accommodation and the cleaning staff were fine and trustworthy. The price is reasonable. The Restaurant staff were helpful, but the food could have been better. I think they should add a ceiling fan in the bathroom or provide a fan in the bedroom. The smell of sewage was overwhelming and finally I put a ziplock over the drain and shut the bathroom door, , to lessen the nausea I experienced. Our last night there, some idiot was practising shooting a gun between mid nite and 3.a.m. We didn't get any sleep at all since our taxi was scheduled for 3:30 a.m. This is difficult for seniors or anybody for that matter. I must admit when I heard music late at night it was usually, live and authentic. I almost jumped out of bed to search for the restaurant that had such fabulous live musicians! .The building is beautiful and lovingly maintained. The sewage needs to be addressed in general, in M.C., it spoils such a beautiful historic centre.

It is one of the most beautiful old style hotels I know and the central atrium is excellent. Great location, near metro station Isabel la Catolica. 5 blocks from the Zocalo and cathedral. Airport is 40 minutes by metro.

Best budget hotel in Mexicocity as well as country
3rd time in Mexico City, always stayig at Hotel Isabel. It's just as well run , freshly painted and spotless clean now as it was 26 years ago. I really like the attzched bar and restaurant with a local atmosphere.
