Perfect weekend getaway
Aside from the intense heat outside, our stay was perfect. The rental was so clean and cozy (super grateful for well working a/c), owners were super friendly and attentive, and the overall grounds were beautiful and well maintained. Will definitely stay again in the future.

Peace and quiet in a natural shore setting.
Amazing location, close to the town of Mathews but a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of city/suburbia. Quiet, meticulously maintained grounds on a protected creek that leads to the Bay. We paid attention to the tides/weather report and had great paddling conditions. Plenty of wildlife, fish, birds, interesting shoreline crabs and native vegetation. Well-designed, modern 2BR apartment over a separate-building/garage with excellent AC and kitchen. Nice breezy deck, outdoor shower and privacy. Awesome stargazing from Moon, too. Hosts are very generous and thoughtful. My only complaint is the VRBO reservation system was wonky and the system was having IT issues when I booked. Not a fault of the hosts, of course.

The apartment was clean and very nice. Serene area plenty of wildlife. Swim, kayak, fish from the pier. You are literally surrounded by water. There is also a local beach about 5 min. We also took a trip to Virginia Beach for a few days while we were there. There is a nice free pier and swimming beach in nearby Gloucester. Fresh fruit and veggie market. The rental property has a huge field for a yard that my kids just ran and ran in. Flew some kites ect. The only negative remark is no washer and dryer. There is a laundromat in town. I would definitely stay again.

Quiet and relaxing stay!
This is a lovely unit in a beautiful location. It has all you’ll need to unwind and enjoy the water or my favorites….the sunrise and sunset! Close to beaches, and to a quaint little town for shopping or dining! Carl and Norma were wonderful hosts making sure we knew how to access the kayaks, sharing the history of the house , offering suggestions on the best paces to eat or for things do and checking to see that had everything we needed. Getting to enjoy the whole property was wonderful! It was like a ‘lil home away from home!

Our stay at this cottage in Moon was perfect! Inside was clean, comfortable, quiet and had everything we needed. Outside was beautiful, the hosts told us feel free to walk anywhere on the property, the dock at the creek was perfect to park our boat at and fish/crab at night. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Relaxing Waterfront
Cute little apartment above the detached garage, super clean, with a giant magnolia between it and the main house, very private. House has a nice full bath with plenty of towels. The outdoor shower and sink are great too. The catwalk out to the natural beach was great and loved seeing all the crabs and snails and even an eagle who was hanging out. The kayaks were a wonderful added bonus. Downtown is only a couple minute drive with several good restaurants, but go to Richardson's. Get directions before going to Haven Beach as they stop putting up the road signs after a bit....

This is a gem of a place to stay when in Mathews VA area
We came here for the Mathews ride on 21 May 2022 and it was a perfect place to stay out in the country and only one and half miles of the Green route of the ride. The place is on a large piece of land with water on three sides and the place we stayed, is separate for the main house. We were very please as it was a very comfortable place to stay and walk to around to see the nature and the water. Makes you feel like you are home. The owner are wonderful people and we look forward to stay at this place again in the future

Serene setting
Located on a quiet and calm creek connected to the Chesapeake Bay, this cottage was located as a separate building if the main quarters. 2 bedrooms and 1 bath plus a generous living room and dining area which was attached to the oversize kitchen. Very quiet and peaceful setting where you can sit alongside the water on a private deck. Hosts are very nice and accommodating. Quick drive to the town where there is shopping and dining aplenty. If you are looking for a calm and peaceful setting for a couple or foursome, this is the place to stay.

Always a wonderful experience at Carl and Norma’s place. Clean and stocked accommodations, quick drive to restaurants and grocery, and unbeatable access to the water. We kayaked everyday (at sunrise and sunset which are both beautiful from the property). My kids (8, 10) enjoyed the small beach with swimming and sand building. Property owners easily accessible if needed. Wonderful escape for a long weekend. We always wish we could stay longer.

We Had Fun
Very clean apartment, serene environment. Lots of wildlife around - we caught glimpse of a giant turtle in the backyard "stealing" a pear from a pear tree. Carl and Norma were extremely friendly to show us around and lend us cutting knife and scaler to process the fish we caught at the fishing pier and generous to let us charge our Tesla at the house. It'd be nice to remind guests that there's no washer and dryer, or wifi, so there's no disappointment there. My husband had to work but fortunately we had reception on our phone and he used hotspot on his phone for internet access. But otherwise it'd be troublesome. We used laundromat in town for laundry. Bethel Beach was beautiful and secluded, but be careful of rocks and jelly fish. My foot was scratched although it was not too bad. Jelly fish wasn't too bad at the beach but we saw lots of them at the pier so the pier is not good for swimming. We had lots of fun exploring nearby towns, fishing, kayaking, swimming. Thanks for the hospitability! The only advice is that I wish Carl would have worn a mask coming into the apartment trying to fix the curtains. No offense and plz do not take this personally, but my daughter is high risk and catching Covid would have been life-threatening. While we enjoying talking outside but when inside we'd like to be extra careful.

Fun on the river!
We absolutely loved our stay. Carl Douglas and Norma are amazing hosts, providing a super-clean and comfortable apartment, as well as kayaks--and advice on where to go for fun! It's super-close to Haven Beach, and a great area for biking. We will ABSOLUTELY be back--already tried to book for a long weekend, but it was full, not surprisingly!

This was probably the cleanest of all the 20+ vrbo properties we have stayed in over the past 15 years! We stayed with 2 teenagers in late July 2021 to attend a sailing class in nearby Deltaville. The place is comfortable enough for four and the boys enjoyed the provided kayaks to get out on the creek. As indicated in the description, the owners live on the property and were very friendly and helpful.

A wonderful place to disconnect
My husband and I spent 5 days in Carl and Norma’s guest house. We absolutely loved the grounds and the guest house. It was the first time in my life that I felt comfortable walking barefoot when I stayed away from my home. The guest house was spotless. The views from every where on the property we’re breathtaking! We enjoyed wonderful sunsets, and in our last morning there, I was able to wake up early enough to catch a gorgeous sunrise as well!! It is an idillic and calming place. Finally, Norma and Carl are such lovely people who gave us lots of great suggestions on what to do and how to get in a kayak ( my first time!)! We really enjoyed chatting with them 😊.

Our stay was very peaceful. The best views and very clean. The owners were great to chat with and they take very good care of the grounds. We enjoyed a Canoe ride and there is a boat dock if you bring your own boat. I wish the beds were a little bigger but they had everything we needed for our stay including a grill. This spot seems to be a little unknown but it’s worth the visit

Our second time to this property. The owners, Norma and Carl are very helpful and friendly, when you see them. We felt like we were their by ourselves. We take our boat and tie up at their dock. Easy access. Boat ramp is a bit of a distance but we know the area. The apartment above a 3 car garage is very clean and comfortable. Fairly ordinary, not too special but comfortable. Little kitchen is equipped adequately. Matthews is closest town. There are nice restaurants there and in Gloucester. The weather was perfect for boating and to go to our favorite beach on Gwynne's Island. We saw lots of wildlife when we sat on the dock with coffee every morning. Just a really sweet, heavenly place to chill!

Perfect spot on the bay!
This was our second trip to this property, it’s very relaxing, absolutely spotless and conveniently located to nearby beaches. We love the dock, the private beach on the property is perfect for our 4 year old. We get takeout from some nearby restaurants and hit the beach during the day. We are booked to return in July. It’s truly such an easy place to go and feel at home. The owners couldn’t be any nicer!

A friend and I were participating in the Tour de Chesapeake and chose to stay at this beautiful apartment. The apartment was sparkling clean and very comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. The property is beautiful and quiet while also being within easy bicycling distance to the town of Mathews with its restaurants, grocery store and other amenities. Check-in and check-out were a breeze, and the hosts were friendly and responsive without hovering. We are already talking about when we might go back ... and hopefully tack on an extra day or two to take advantage of the kayaks!

Our family of four had a great stay. The propriety is very clean. We really enjoyed the small beach area and the dock. We fished and canoed in the creek (inlet). There is a large grass area adjacent to the rental unit with lots of space for playing. Richardson’s Cafe in Mathews is a great spot with a take out window for ice cream cones or meals.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us! It was exactly the peaceful getaway we were hoping for. We had a wonderful time enjoying our morning coffee with a view of the water, fishing from the dock (thank you for lending us a pole!), walking the gorgeous grounds, grilling out, and catching sunsets from the dock. Despite the 30 degrees, windy, rainy weekend, this property is gorgeous! The Bay and surrounding water is just outside the immaculate, comfortable living space. Outside each window you see nature. With the town of Mathews very close, everything needed is right there. The owners were friendly and easy to communicate with when needed. We love it there!
