Given that they were in the middle of renervations the pub was not open only the room was available but nice and clean once renervations complete will be an ideal place to stay
The staff where very friendly and helpful and a great atmosphere in the bar area you can see they are trying to upgrade the and modernise the rooms
But still a lot of things to be done carpet shampooed new windows shower upgrade just general stuff that would be any where else but clean and fresh towels
No noise after 11pm and no unsavoury clients in the bar
It’s okay for a overnight the town is lovely and the hotel is convenient where it is

The staff was excellent, shower didn’t drain well, beds were comfortable, there was no noise from the bar downstairs that we heard even though it was a Saturday night. Room was a little chilly when we went in. Would love to go back next year to see changes
Nobody bothered to tell us the premises had recently completely changed its name & outside paintwork. Drove round Penrith 3 times, passing it & had to ask locals twice. The pub bar was well equipped, lively, but noisy, although not heard in the bedroom. Staff friendly. Room decor poor, outdated patched up woodchip & artex. Bathroom floor had hair stuck in the grime. All corners & shower ledges were dirty. Room had a strange smell. Good central location.

Great handy hotel
Very handy hotel to the train and rail stations. The hotel is under new ownership and its owner is very friendly and helpful. We had a great nights sleep and fully refreshed in the morning.
The name of the property had been changed the day before we arrived so we walked past it a few times before realising. The staff we met were very helpful but we chose not to stay as the room was drab and depressing with rubbish piled on the corridor and sheets on the bed looking grimy and creased
The Castlegate Arms hotel doesn’t exist anymore and I wasn’t aware of it. I tried to check in and the sign was being changed and the doors were locked. The workers changing the sign tried to contact the owner, but weren’t able to contact him. I went to another hotel down the road and the front desk tried to contact the owner, but couldn’t get ahold of him either. I couldn’t check in. Check in on hotels.com indicated check in was at 3:20.

It took us two trips around the one-way system to find the place. The name of the place had changed to the Victoria Inn and was under new management. We had not received any notification of this. The pub downstairs looked absolutely fine, but we didn’t use it. We were taken upstairs to our room and it was obvious the place was being renovated as there were paint pots and dust sheets and decorating equipment in a corner in the hallway and wet paint signs everywhere. Our room was quite small. We couldn’t open the window. However, I did have a good night sleep and the shower was hot.
I did not stay because the hotel and website hotels.com both Denise my payment despite money taken from my account and now my bank disputed this .
I will never recommend you to anyone
You waste my money and time nearly one hour over the phone
