Hotel reception and check-in was easy and cordial, Room #6 was spacious as was the ensuite, and the staff were eager, energetic, and attentive---especially in the restaurant. The restaurant offered a variety of foods, beverages, and delicious desserts. A+ for the restaurant! However, based upon our experience the only time I would stay again would be in high summer. Room #6 was freezing. And the Dimplex electric wall-mounted heater was pitiful. It would only operate for 90 seconds before switching off, and one had to wait about 2-3 minutes with the mains switched "off" before switching on at the mains and then switching on the heater again for another 90-second burst of heat. Needless to say, the heater would not activate throughout the night, so with temperatures down to 2° C/36° F at night, we were freezing cold even under two
duvets! I'm not sure if this was a Scottish thrift measure to save on heating, but it was the difference between a 3-star and 4-star rating. There is no one on duty at reception during the night. When I addressed the heater at reception, the staff member offered to have a free-standing heater sent to the room... but we instead received a rather grumpy older man who fiddled with the heater, managed to switch it "on," and then left. Of course, the heater stopped functioning after 90 seconds.
