"Honeymoon Dream"
My husband and I stayed at Arenas del Mar for our honeymoon and couldn't have been happier with our stay. The room was beautiful and spacious, the location directly in the rainforest AND on the beach was unreal, & the staff was incredibly accommodating! The staff helped us book all of our excursions, we did a guided tour of the national park through them, and we did the tortilla making class on site; it was all so much fun! One thing I really loved about the resort was how knowledgeable and respectful they were of the animals and rainforest. We learned a lot about the animals we saw outside of our room and in the lobby area. The food was out of this world delicious. All of the fruit and drinks were so fresh and just exactly as you would imagine for Costa Rica. Our favorite drink was the Monkey Business. We even tried to recreate it and some of our favorite dishes when we got home. A few memorable parts of our trip worth mentioning: In the middle of our first night there I woke up to a loud noise. There was clearly an animal in our room and I started freaking out. My husband didn't believe me and didn't see anything until he heard it himself. It sounded like a monkey to me but turned out to be a tiny gecko! You'll see them all over. One night it poured down rain (in July), which kind of sucked, but it made the most beautiful lightning storm. We watched from the lobby as it lit up the whole sky.’ The private dinner is incredibly romantic. Do it!

We had the best experience. Beautiful room, a sloth outside our window. Sat on the porch and watched the rain. Close to everything. Great breakfast included!

Penthouse suite was very spacious for two families. Only one restaurant.... food was great for breakfast but not very good for dinner (tried it twice). Beach is private but very small and rocky. Kids still has a lot of fun there and an excellent spot to watch the sun set.

"Wonderful Quiet Getaway!"
Easy check-in - All very low stress. The road to get there is pretty typical of Costa Rica, so be glad you are not likely in your own car! Staff was wonderful, and the gardens beautiful. The black sand beach is among the most beautiful we have ever been to, and you can walk as far as you desire. Breakfast was very tasty, and had lots of variety. We really enjoyed talking with Sunshine, and hanging out on the beach! This was our "Luxury" part of our vacation before and after heading out to camp in the jungle for 2 weeks. The AC was heavenly after 2 weeks in 100 degree+ temps!

"Amazing views, modest service"
Outstanding elevated views of the beaches!! Staff is very nice and helpful, but the service was rather poor. The room was not cleaned both days we were there, they charged a different rate the second day although they explicitly told us it will be the same rate when we decided to stay second day, every day we had to wait 20 minutes to get beach towels, our room keys did not work twice. Voiced our disappointment at the end, and we talked to the manager who gave us a discount on the bill. Overall a very nice experience, because the place has amazing views and very nice staff, but I think they are understaffed this is why we did not get the best experience.

"nice hotel, secluded beach"
We were worried when the GPS took us down a dirt road, so were very pleased when we saw the hotel. The owner greeted us and was very friendly. The hotel is only 5 years old, and everything is very nice. The rooms are huts with high ceilings. Yes good air conditioning Two walls are basically windows There's also a patio with netting all around. The beds look and feel clean and are comfortable. The shower has force and gets hot. Lots of tv channels, good reception and good internet (better than some other hotels). No complaints about the room or restaurant (we ate 3 meals there). The pool water is very green & owner said the minerals in their water when mixed with chlorine turns that color green - but yes safe to swim. On this trip we drove up and down the coast within the Puntarenas region and looked at several beaches. Like most, this beach sand is dark however it is a good texture sand, clean beach and I found more than a dozen intact sand dollars walking maybe a half hour or hour. The hotel and beach are separated only by the road that brought you there. There were only a few people on the beach, which I liked. They have chairs and umbrellas for your usage on beach. We wished we had stayed here all 3 nights and driven down to Manuel Antonio because it's worth the little dirt road drive. Oh, & Diana (owner) called me out to see the monkeys in the tree and I fed them bananas - super cool. Plus, a sloth and hits family were living in a tree outside our hut.

"Lovely Resort"
We stayed in May at the end of the season. Our first room was huge with sweeping views but there was some construction going on below us so we asked to move. Next room was smaller but the bathroom was better with a counter top and huge shower. Smelt swampy and we found mildew on the draperies so the staff changed them out which helped. They left a fruit plate one day which was nice. Staff were young, eager and helpful. We left our phone chargers in the first room and had them back within ten minutes of making a call. Grounds were spectacular, dining experience excellent, we ended up having all our meals there for 5 nights. Pool was lovely and the swim up bar fun. Prices were extremely reasonable for beer and wine. They had a special on a brand of wine for $20 a bottle and it was very good. Breakfast was a great selection and an omelette chef could make you your favorite combination.

"Beautiful view"
This hotel has an amazing view of the ocean and jungle. We saw toucans, monkeys, and lizards on the property which was fun.Our two children loved the waterslide and pool! We enjoyed having drinks and food available while our children played. There were great tours available. And an amazing breakfast. There was so much to see we wished we could have stayed longer.

"Like being a guest in a French mansion or estate"
This Hotel came up when I did a search based around Manual Antonio. I discovered after I booked (and went there) it is not close. My mistake. The location is an isolated beach (on a peninsula) with palms that are still harvested in some spots for oil. Forget about dinner the first night because you have to make reservations by 9 am. The French couple that run it are nice but have rules about keys and towels and not being out past ten that some will not like. The lady will have a fit if you break any rules like using a towel on the beach. Once I accepted everything I ended up enjoying a long beach with no one around. A few mosquitoes. The beach has a strange beauty. Its hot in this area and the sun is intense, be careful...I got burned in only an hour, even when I used sunscreen. No TV or radio in rooms. They play a radio loud with traditional rock and soul favorites. I was given a room in the main house and right above the couple's office and TV area. The volume of the music (and in the evening the couple's TV) was not loud enough to bother many but I could here it and it annoyed me a lot. I was only there for a day so I said nothing. Some of you will love the couple and some will not. They try hard to be gracious and the place is kind of cool in a quaint country way. It does have Wifi that worked in my room.
