Wonderful trip to Mission Bay

Posted Sep 29, 2015
Pros: The beautiful gardens made it feel like you were somewhere else than southern California. Our room was great and so was the staff.
Cons: We found the parking spaces a little tight in the parking garage so it is good that we rented a small car!
Location: The location was great for walking and riding bikes-something we did every day. There are many large parks nearby. A must see is the San Diego Zoo.
My wife and I stayed at the Catamaran from 9/13/15 to 9/20/15. We love the beach and were lucky enough to get a 9th floor room facing Mission Bay. We could also see the Pacific from our balcony. Our room was large and included a full kitchen. We ate breakfast on the balcony every morning and witnessed first hand the hard-working employees. They were sweeping the sidewalk, raking the beach and putting out the umbrellas and chairs for ANYONE to use, besides setting up for weddings and meetings outside. The view was wonderful and we could see all the activity on the water and on the large sidewalk/path below. The gardens at the hotel were beautiful also and included ducks, large gold fish and large tropical birds. Bikes were available for rental near the property also. There is a pool on the property also, but we preferred the beach.

Close to the beach and right on Mission Bay

The hotel has some nice amenities, but the room was is dire need of an update. Very disappointing for a 4 star resort. On top of the daily resort fee and extra $20 a day to self park. Really???? My friend was staying at the Westin hotel downtown and it was a much much nicer hotel for less money per night. The Westin will be my choice next time I'm in San Diego.

We Will Stay at the Catamaran Again!

Posted Sep 23, 2015
Pros: Lots to like, including one of the most friendly and helpful hotel staffs anywhere. Oceania restaurant was tops too. Nice free ride on the boat too
Cons: Sliding window screen, sliding closet door, and one drawer all needed maintenance. Toilet flapper had to be replaced. $19 daily parking seemed high.
Location: Lots to do in San Diego and we did them all, starting with an all day area tour with "Another Side Tour" which helped us decide what to visit in depth
Stayed a week and wished it was longer. Very nice, clean, and quiet room with excellent views of the garden. Great location with touches of Hawai'i everywhere and easy access to both the Bay and Ocean. Excellent hotel restaurant with a nice well rounded menu. We hit most of the highlights from Art Galleries to the Zoo and enjoyed them all. The Midway visit and lunch at the Prado in Balboa Park should not be missed. Hotel bathroom had a 1970's feel with limited counter space, but everything else was up to date.

Close to beaches and restaurants, buses etc.

Pros: Location was superb. Being right on Mission Bay was stunning with white sandy beaches. Water activities and rental of kayaks, sail boats etc.
Location: Lots of bars, restaurants, grocery store etc. within a 3 block walk.
We stayed a week at the Catamaran Resort and really enjoyed it. The facilities are great. What we appreciated was proximity to Mission Bay and Pacific Beach (on the ocean). You had your pick within a 1-2 min walk. Also, close to bus route which takes you easily into town. SeaWorld is just 15 min away. Really a nice place to vacation!

Hotel was a nightmare and staff just shrugged.

Posted Sep 20, 2015
Pros: The outside decor was nice
Cons: Rooms, especially the ones in the back near the parking structure.
My family wanted to do a quick get away with our 1 year old daughter and thought the Catamaran would be a good stay. When we got to our room, it looked like a 1 star hotel. Tiles had mold and mildew, carpet stunk, sheet had blood on it, fixtures and furniture were old.... it was not what I expected. Photos are below. The room was so bad, I had to bring in towels and such we had in our car so my daughter can sleep on them. When I spoke to a maid about it, she just said she would report it. With it being late and a long day, we decided to just tough it out. The next morning, I went to the front desk and told them about my experience and they simply said "I'm sorry to hear". Not even a concern. I was expecting them to say something along the lines of "we will go check the room right away" or "thank you for notifying us and we will look into it". Nope, just "I'm sorry to hear". I don't think I would be as disappointed if my daughter was not traveling with us, but I expected better customer service.

Nice hotel in a wonderful location!

We have been to the Catamaran many times, and love the comfort and location. Hotel prices are high, but commensurate with the area. This trip we learned that discounts can be given to repeat customers, and our parking fee was waived!

Mission Bay Hotel

Posted Sep 14, 2015
Pros: The staff was nice-always. the location was perfect.
Cons: The rooms and even the buildings need to be renovated if you are charging those prices. Stop charging the guests to park.
Location: everything you want to do is near by, but everything was booked for the day and unavailable the day we stayed.
The Catamaran was back over the labor day weekend. The guest hall bath were inside by the Gift shop and not conveniently located for beach access. the bathrooms were dirty and un-kept from the beach crowds, and hot. the beach crowd brought the mess through the resort to go to the bathrooms. Our room had a broken a/c which more than dripped-it soaked the carpet and even after reporting it, the wetness grew all night long and ruined one of our bags, there was no where to put your bags in the room we were given. the room was very outdated as well. The grounds were nice, landscaping nice. Location was great. they also up charge for everything-parking-even though they have a garage, room sleeps four, but they charged 50.00 per guest over two. it was called a suite but it was a room, old stairs, no view, back of property. we checked in early in hopes of getting a better nicer room and if that was the best, they have issues.
