Don't hesitate - Excellent Lodge
This is a cannot miss for eco travelers and for families. Excellent comfort, food, wildlife! I have stayed here 8 times, this is the first time for my family and it was their favorite location of three in Costa Rica. Excellent!!

The property was conveniently located off a major highway. It was nice to have covered walkways between the rooms and dining area to protect from the rain showers. There was a lot of greenery which provided a safe haven for frogs and other creatures. The hotel offered a lot of tours, although some of them you had to take a taxi to get to which cost extra. They also have tours onsite on their nature preserve. It is an excellent location for birders and nature lovers. The buffet breakfast was excellent. The property is very near to the Sarapiqui River. WiFi coverage was available throughout the property. There was a gift shop onsite. Highly recommend for birdwatchers and nature lovers. We enjoyed the night hike and the morning hike with the expert guide at the lodge. It has an attached authentic Italian restaurant which was unusual for that area of Costa RIca.

It was a beautiful property with very nice staff but it wasn't as expected. It is on a main busy road. We thought we were going to be in the middle of the rainforest. The rooms were very nice and the food was good. Loved watching the birds from the balcony but was hoping for a quieter setting l.

We like the room very much and the pool was lovely. The front desk staff was very helpful in arranging great activities. We did not enjoy the sounds and smells from the construction. We also would have like more self-guided walks.

Loved the covered walkways. We were literally walking in the rainforest! Breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit, eggs, bean and rice. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was large and clean. Very eco friendly. Ours was by the river and the sound was wonderful. My only complaint is that they claim to have a hot tub. It's there, but no heat and no jets. Should be called a small pool instead.

Fantastic location and property layout
2 nights as part of tour but loved it so much we came back following week for another 2 nights , as a wheelchair user it was designed brilliantly the covered concrete walkways level access restaurant, so much wildlife within the hotel grounds no need to leave , so many amazing birds , to sit and have breakfast and watch the bird feeding station , a lovely idea which we really enjoyed . The rooms are a little dated but spacious and comfortable. My partner did a walk with Randy and really enjoyed it . All the staff are so helpful we definitely return thanks so much .

Selva Verde is a special place where you can experience the beauty of Costa Rica’s tropical rainforest in a natural setting. The staff are wonderful, the food is fresh and local, the guides are knowledgeable, and birds and animals are abundant.

Wonderful staff! Great on property tours and connections to tours in the area. Beautiful property with animals all around. Breakfast was always delightful with bird watching opportunities.

This type of property is for travelers that are not looking for luxury or modern conveniences. It is basic and clean. The staff is wonderful and for the naturalist it is in a perfect setting. We enjoyed our time here.

Great way to experience the tropical rain forest
Great lodge for guests interested in nature, offering close encounters and observations of many birds visiting the bird feeding station just outside the restaurant or walking the different trails with one of the competent guides or self-guided. The rooms are basic but clean. Unfortunately, one of the country's main truck route crosses right through the Selva Verde natural preserve,

Love this hotel!!
It's a fantastic setting! It's our second stay, surrounded by rainforest, we saw so many types of birds, monkeys, sloths, frogs, it's a photographers paradise!! And the staff it's awesome!! They helped us having a great time, specially Gustavo from the guest relations department. Great food too!

Great eco lodge, we loved our stay. Book the tour guide, the jungle tour is right there and it's a really good one. Nice that the walkways are covered as the lodge is spread out so no problem walking when it's raining. The bar tender (Ken?) is very personable and makes a fabulous gin & tonic.

We were fortunate enough to have decided to make a last minute change to our trip to Costa Rica and got to stay at this amazing place. The incredible conservation area was full of birds, monkeys, frogs, snakes, and many other animals, insects, and vegetation. The staff is so helpful and knowledgeable. Wish we had more time there. We will definitely be back.

Great property
We loved our staff, our family room was a great size, we loved big up at tree level, the hammock was great. We enjoyed the pool and grounds. Food was good. We enjoyed the Italian option for dinner rather than the buffet. We did a guided morning walk and they arranged for us to do a chocolate tour and horseback riding nearby.

Truly a Diamond in the Ruff!!
This beautiful hotel that is one with nature! We enjoyed watching an amazing variety of birds while eating breakfast. There are expert well educated nature guides employed by the hotel. We did the early morning bird walk and night walk with them on the hotel nature reserve! They were both excellent! Other excellent tours are available near by. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. If you are a birder or a lover of nature this hotel is a must stay in Costa Rica!!

This hotel is a great place to rest for people who loves nature. The owners spend lots of resources to keep beautiful gardens full of a variety of species of plants and animals. They also maintain areas of tropical rainforest. Our room was close to the river. The atmosfere is wonderful. Breakfast delicious.

Brilliant, fabulous experience. The rainforest is absolutely breathtaking: birds, iguanas, frogs. stunning. And the hotel is a delight. Great service, wonderful accommodation, kind and attentive guides. Only thing that was not perfect were a few of the other guests.

What a wonderful place to enjoy the rainforest. We had a wonderful gentlemen named Gus who showed us around the property of the lodge! The lodge has areas to watch the birds while enjoying your breakfast! The room was large and beds were very comfortable.

The Best in Costa Rica!
Everything about our stay was perfect. We visit Selva Verde every year and are always so impressed with everything this lodge has to offer. Great food, perfect location, comfortable rooms and lots of wildlife. What really makes Selva Verde so special is the people - they are so warm and friendly and make you feel right at home.

Natural paradise
Loved our stay in a river room. You hear the animals all night. It's amazing! You also here the human animal though, as the walls are paper thin between rooms. The Italian restaurant's food was good but the server rushed us and never did a quality check. We were not asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. The front desk clerk apologized next day and mentioned there is one server there who has had similar previous complaints. The bird walk at 6am was amazing. Ronald took us and he found all kinds of birds, frogs and other creatures for us to see. The river behind the property is pristine and eating breakfast watching oropendolas and other species enjoying the bananas the staff puts out for them is incredible. The breakfast is a typical breakfast with plenty of fresh, sweet pineapple, papaya and watermelon. Oh, and the great coffee. We didn't want to leave!

La Selva Verde Lodge.
2 night stay here in July 2015. There had been serious flooding on the Sarapaqui River the week before our stay resulting in some damage to the hotel grounds, with some of the cabins off limits and under repair.The nearby La Selva Biological Station was completely inaccessible due to flooding. Pros: Great place for wildlife. We had 2 guided walks and both guides were excellent, but you will see lots of wildlife on your own. Food here was good. Great buffet breakfast and either Costa Rican or Italian restaurant to choose from for dinner. One of the best pizzas I have had in years. Cons: no getting away from the noise at La Selva. The place is full of wildlife and it comes alive with calling amphibians at dusk and then with birds and howler monkeys at dawn. Add to that the constant river noise. We were there mainly for wildlife so didn't mind that. There was also much noise created by groups of school kids until the early hours and the lodge is right on the main route 4, although most cabins are closer to the river. Also workmen started working on flood repairs at 7 am both mornings. Our cabin was looking a little shabby and tired too. That said I think this is still probably the best accommodation in the area.
