Great cottage in Downeast Maine
We enjoyed staying at this vintage cottage within easy reach of all that this area of Downeast Maine has to offer. Hosts conveniently provided an additional parking spot very near the Isle au Haut ferry boat docks.

First time in Maine
The location of the cottage, halfway between town and the Burnt Cove Market, is so convenient. The cottage itself is homey. The beds were each voted "just right" for sleeping by their occupants. Having a reserved parking spot and use of the kayaks in town was also handy. Aside from this, our hosts helped us find interesting local things to do while waiting a couple of days for the fog to go away, as it finally did. Sunshine! Island views!

A very good experience
The accommodations were both spacious and cozy. Smaller bedrooms but just right for one or two persons and beds and pillows were comfortable. A good washer and dryer was useful, as well as a large, well appointed kitchen. Close to the center of Stonington, with excellent restaurants. Day trips to other towns added variety. Barbara was attentive to our needs and most friendly.

The house was cozy and felt like a visit to our grandparents home. The house had everything we needed. clean and well stocked. The washer/dryer was a great bonus. Location was close to town and Barbara offered parking at her home which helped. She was very helpful and quick to respond. We had a great time.

Charm, a close drive to the harbor
This is a cute cottage in a quiet residential neighborhood. The center of town is under a 3 minute drive. Town parking is very limited, but a parking spot is included near the center of town. Our family of 3 (adult daughter) enjoyed quiet family time while we waited out the rain. We didn't use the outdoor picnic table,, seating and grill, but they were inviting for better weather. A lovely trip!

Quintessential coastal cottage
I cannot speak highly enough about this VRBO. Exceptionally charming cottage within close walking distance to the downtown area. Very quiet and a BREATHTAKING view if you venture up through the backyard to the overlook. I enjoyed every minute of my time here. Barbara was a wonderful host and made superb recommendations for dining. I can't wait to return!

A little slice of nostalgia in the most beautiful place on Earth!
Barbara is the most exceptional host! My husband and I had an absolutely wonderful time at the Sweet Pea cottage. Our stay was restful and the property is so cozy and fitted with everything we could ask for: to be completely comfortable and taken away from the stress and bustle of everyday life. We ended up meeting Barbara and her husband the first day we were in town and they were incredibly helpful with recommendations for things to see around the isle and where to find a delicious meal. We felt like family and we cannot wait to come back in 2022. Thank you so much Barbara!!!

Charming house; wonderful hosts
My friend, her dog and I enjoyed our stay at Sweet Pea cottage very much. The place was very clean and really well stocked with everything we could need -- especially all kinds of kitchen utensils and pots. The house is charming. The bedrooms are small, but my bed was really comfortable. We especially loved the kayaks -- they are a wonderful perk. Barbara, the host, is a lovely, warm person and is very accessible -- best way to reach her is by text or phone. She and her partner were so helpful to us with the kayaks -- they helped us carry them across the sand in low tide, and gave us all kinds of advice about the surrounding islands. The internet/wifi was great -- one tip: the correct password is on the wall above the bulletin board in the little bedroom/office. Stonington is a lovely town to walk around in. We also enjoyed walking up the hill behind the house to an open, flat rock area with nice views. Many thanks, Barb!

Overnight in Stonington, near the ferry
Barbara's second home is darling and clean, and we were very lucky that she a) called us early on the day of our arrival to provide her text in case anything went wrong, b) offered context that helped us ensure that we'd catch our ferry to the Isle au Haut camp site, c) loaned us camp chairs to use for the trip when she realized we'd forgotten them, and d) texted me to let me know that my daughter had left her iPhone in her room. Without all this, the camping trip we tried to fit in at the end of a busy work week might not have been as successful!

A great trip to the Twilight Zone!
For what we were looking for, this cottage did the trick! It's like it was transported here via the Twilight Zone from the forties, complete with all the forties furnishings and decorations (ok, maybe except for the flat screen TV and wifi). The place just oozes character, quirkiness, and charm. If you're looking for luxury you won't find it here, but it's super cozy and we would stay there again in a heartbeat. It's plenty roomy, that's for sure, so you won't feel cramped. When we had questions and texted our host Barbara, she replied INSTANTLY, which was both impressive and helpful. The location is fine, no more than a five minute drive from Stonington village. Last but not least, the two reserved parking spaces and available patio space right down the harbor are HUGE bonuses and come along with the cottage. Good stuff! Thanks, Barbara!

Tidy, small cottage in good location
The cottage is small, and a short 5 minute drive from downtown Stonigton. It's a 15 minute walk from the cottage on foot. If you're planning on mostly staying in Deer Isle, or even in the Stonington area, it's a perfect location. If you're going to be driving a lot to explore nearby-ish areas like Camden/Rockland, Acadia, or Schoodic, know that it's a half hour from the cottage to the Deer Isle bridge, so you are in for a longer drive than if you stayed on the Blue Hill Peninsula itself. We did a lot of local hikes and walks both on Deer Isle and in the Blue Hill area, and were very happy with the location. The cottage has two small bedrooms with full or queen size beds and not a lot of moving-around room, a good-sized kitchen with better-than-usual amounts of cooking equipment/utensils, a small shower-only bathroom (with no ventilation fan, my only real complaint), and a small office with a twin sized cot, plus a small living room with a loveseat, two chairs, the TV, and a small book & video library. There is a thermostat and baseboard heating, so you're not dependent on a woodstove to heat the cottage. The cottage was very tidy, and the washer/dryer on site worked well and we used it several times. The wifi was sluggish, but worked for what we needed. If you were going to try to do remote work while you were here, however, you might be frustrated. There were plenty of towels, sheets & blankets-- if you are looking for everything to be brand-new, you will be disappointed, but if you are looking for a cottage that's well-stocked, clean, and comfortable, you will be fine. We didn't use the picnic table, grill, or fire pit, and we didn't use the kayaks or porch/seating area at the downtown Stonington location, so I can't comment on those. The owner was very responsive when we called with questions or issues. At one point there was a wind storm and she called to check in, which we appreciated. There are small grocery stores on the island for basic groceries and supplies. After Labor Day, check on business and restaurant hours, since many places are seasonal. We would definitely stay again if we were back in the area. We have rented other Maine cottages through VRBO, and this cottage was definitely more nicely decorated, warmer on chilly days & nights, and more well-stocked than others.

Lovely Rural Getaway
The cabin was adorable and had everything we needed to be comfortable. The kayaks were a wonderful perk and using them really added to our experience. The location is very convenient to Stonington, and there’s a little grocery store a few miles down the road if you need any supplies. The host was extremely responsive and welcomed us with a lovely note and fresh wildflowers. This isn’t the place to stay if you’re looking for glitz and glamour, but it’s definitely the place to stay if you’re looking for homey, affordable fun and comfort! We loved it and would stay again.

Rustic Maine Cottage
Cute old property in a rural area of Maine, good to use as a place to crash for a get away near the ocean. Well water is what you might expect near the ocean so you may want to consider bringing drinking water (although it was also provided.) Easy to get into and worked well for an enjoyable weekend away.

People staying here should be very flexible.
Bed sheets had mildew and the over all building had a strong smell of animals (which I am OK with... but guest was not) There are many windows with peeling paint (not sure about children). The window fan in the living room is extremely dirty. One of the house keys has an off-cut and has to be giggled to work properly. Arrived after dark. No outside lights (sensors) to help navigate to back entrance. Wifi password listed on the welcome app is not correct. It took some time... but found the "new" password posted on a wall. Nice quiet spot. People staying here should be very flexible.

Cozy and comfy
We enjoyed our say at this cottage! It is very unique as if going back in time to visit your grandma...decor is that of the 40s and 50s. The backyard has a private, shady area for relaxing and it was so close to Stonington's downtown area. Very nice combination...homey near the coastline. Barbara was so nice and just a phone call or text away.

Interesting Place--Great Area!
We had a great time exploring the Stonington area and staying in our cozy cottage! It is rustic and a little funky, but it was VERY clean and comfortable. We cooked breakfast every day, then left to check out the beautiful coastal towns, and returned with fresh seafood to cook for dinner. We had to do some improvising, because the kitchen pots and pans were a little rustic too, but we made it work! We enjoyed the firepit in the backyard and did walk in to town a couple times. The road to town is not the safest and we never did find a path to the downtown, even though we explored the woods behind the house. It was fun to walk on the rocks in the harbor and the views there are gorgeous. Sand Beach, a short drive away, is a hidden treasure and beautiful at sunset. Don't miss the little place on the dock where you can hold the lobsters (locals don't even know about it) or the Dockside Gifts (where the cute owner gave us all kinds of great tips, like when to go to/avoid Bar Harbor and that we should drive to Castine--loved it!) Acadia/Bar Harbor is only about 75 minutes away and well worth the drive! We went twice, which only cost $25 for the car, because the pass is good for 7 days. We have never seen such beauty, and various types of landscape in one park (beaches, ponds, mountain, rocks, ledges!) All that being said, we had a wonderful week in Stonington at this cottage. The price was very reasonable compared to other places we checked out. If you aren't as adventurous and want to relax on your porch/deck and look at the water, I would recommend looking into Barbara's other property on the harbor. She was very prompt responding to all emails and requests and her mother was charming as we met her when we were checking out. Don't miss a chance to visit Stonington/Acadia/Bar Harbor--it's a treat!

Bad Smell, Uncomfortable Beds
I couldn't have been more disappointed in a vacation rental. The house had an unpleasant smell that made me think of mold. The smell permeated my clothes. Another troubling aspect of the rental was how uncomfortable the mattresses were. The pillows were equally bad. I wish there was something nice I could say about this cottage or the way it was decorated. However, there is not.

Yikes! I am completely perplexed to the nature of this review. We have so enjoyed the many appreciative guests who have loved the cottage and enjoyed the VERY MUCH BELOW market pricing, not to mention the free kayaks, dock, beach access, and downtown parking at our nearby oceanfront properties. The cottage has been solidly booked, cleaned thoroughly weekly by my Mom & Sister, with happy customers complimenting the cleanliness and accommodations week after week. Not every home is the perfect fit for all, and I believe these guests were better suited to a higher end / higher priced property. Having said this, I have placed a phone call to this reviewer and will certainly be open to learn any way in which we can improve. But do please refer to our other reviews for a more complete picture.

Restful and Relaxing Vacation!
The cottage was very cute and clean, and the beds wete very comfy! It was rquipped with everything we needed. The cottage is quite close to the Main Street and had a few nice restaurants and a yummy ice cream stand. The only thing our young grandaughter was disappointed in was the cable and internet and phone stopped working, but we felt that we could relax more without those things, so we never called the owner to have them fixed. It was a pretty little town with beautiful scenery, sunrises and sunsets, and we took many lovely photos. We also hiked out to Barred Island twice on a pretty hike. We were also there during the Lobster Boat races, which was very fun to watch!

Sweet Pea Cottage
Comfortable small cottage. Owner was very helpful answering questions. Good value for the money in a quiet neighborhood. It was nice to be able to take our dog with us. We made sure we vacuumed and picked up after her when we were getting ready to leave. The owner was very prompt returning our deposit. Would try to rent the property again if we were returning to stay in the area.

Cottage walking distance from town and only short drives to beach area and store. Cottage had everything we needed for our week-long stay. Truly enjoyed the off the beaten path route, yet close enough for day trips to the main tourist attractions. Oh, the Stonington village has great shops and the store has a VERY GOOD pizza.
