Kachina Lodge disaster

Pros: The onsite restaurant, The Blue Mountain Cafe, was the only bright spot experience. The manager, Daniel, was very helpful and the food was good.
Cons: Most of the entire motel needed remodeling and cleaned. Management needed to do their job or get someone who would. Very poorly run.
Location: There were plenty of places to shop and eat in the area.
This motel was one of the biggest disasters in our motel experiences. We paid for this motel several months in advance, with a reservation, and we still did not get a room until several hours after check-in time.We had to go back 4 times before we finally had a room. Once we got into the room, there were no towels and the bathroom reeked of urine. There were wet towels on a chair outside of our room The shower curtain was moldy along the entire bottom and there were no hand towels when we finally did get some towels. The wifi did not work 90% of the time and was really weak when it did work. The carpeting was old and dirty and the room smelled moldy. The place only had 2 cleaning staff and they obviously were overworked and not able to keep up with the need. Each day was the same experience and the owners did not help alleviate the problems. The front desk staff tried to be somewhat helpful but couldn't solve many of the issues from the motel guests. At night, there were no lights to light up the parking lot, so it was dark and unsafe to walk around.

Horrible - Avoid, Avoid, Avoid

Pros: Location
Cons: EVERYTHING!!! In addition to no maid service the rooms are in desperate need of updating. Also trash was in various locations all over the property.
Oh, this was not good. We tried to check in around 6:00 PM and were told that the rooms weren't cleaned yet, leave our cell number and they'd call when ready. We did, and went out to dinner, then waited... and waited... then researched other places to stay (no rooms left in Taos, period). We finally called back around 8:30 and were told our room WAS ready. We went back, checked in, and watched while other guests - with reservations - were turned away. They had massively overbooked the place. The room was a mess, trash all over the place, clumps of pet fur all over the floor, no sheets or towels. Called the desk, since they had no other rooms we asked for sheets and towels at least. She said she'd bring them up so we waited... and waited... and finally went down to the desk. Seems she couldn't get into housekeeping, none of the keys fit, the manager had left and wasn't answering his phone and she didn't know what to do. So she did nothing. Which sent us out at 9:45 to buy sheets. It was that or drive 2.5 hours to go home. At last, we had a bed for the night. Next day; again no maid service. There was a different manager at the desk when we checked out who actually seemed to care, she had us leave our number to be contacted for a possible refund. Never happened. And then the icing on the cake - they double-billed our credit card - adding insult to injury!

Convenient location, but dirty room.

Pros: The location was great.
Cons: Give the room a deep cleaning.
Location: Michael's restaurant, the plaza.
The location is very convenient for shopping and eating. The room could have used a good cleaning. The pillows were the smallest pillows for a queen bed I've ever seen. They were square in size and there were only two. The carpet needed vacuuming, the tops of the heater vents were dirty, The room had a strange smell. I would not walk on the carpet without my shoes on. The tub looked dirty and I was glad we only stayed one night.

Much better than expected

After reading many reviews, we were nervous about our reservation. But the place turned out to be great. Loved the vintage character, southwest decor, art collection, spacious room, ceiling fans, pool area, giant pine trees and blooming hollyhocks. Location was good as we could walk to the town square and restaurants. It was right across the street from a health food store that sold kombucha and a Mexican souvenir shop that kept my daughter engaged for quite awhile. It was also very near to the Fahrenheit gallery featuring Native American art. We really enjoyed our time there. I think some of the negative reviews are from people with unrealistic expectations. The price here is so cheap and it was such much more fun than a Super 8 or Motel 6. The only downside is that there is no elevator if you are on the 2nd floor.

Don't Stay Here

Cons: Everything!
the hotel is NOT a resort and does not reflect the pictures that are shown on the internet. We ended up not staying there and went to another hotel in town

Stop Offering on Your Site

This hotel is well below any standard that should be advertised or available through this site/app. Not only was the facility severely short staffed, but the rooms and amenities were tattered, bug-infested, and suffocating due to the years-old stale smoke that permeated the walls, carpeting, and upholstery.

Nothing like the picture

We wondered if we were in the right hotel when we looked at our room. Their website pictures were far from reality. Our two beds had two different bedspreads and there were no mattress covers. The couple of towels in the bathroom were of different colors as was the washcloth and looked like they were picked up from Goodwill. There was one bar of soap that we had for the sink and the shower (different rooms). It looked like we were the only ones staying there and we can understand why. When we brought the keys to the front desk as requested at checkout, we were not even given a nod, let alone a "thank you".

Overall look at Kachina

Pros: not much, although the room was a good size.

Location: location & things to do - all good.
Upon a 4:00 pm arrival, our 1st room (last row in the back) was not yet cleaned - previous guests' clothes strewn about - totally unacceptable as the lodge was at about 90% vacancy. 2nd room closer to main office,but it took 3 sets of key cards to finally get ONE to open room door. Hot tub was "not in operation", housekeeping was minimal - to make things easier, I only requested clean towels & some plastic cups which were placed on the room table (used towels were left on bathroom floor & garbage cans were not emptied) Restaurant advertising table tent (associated with Kachina) had a # asking that we leave a messege - we did, but it was never returned. Bees & gnats were totally annoying, which makes a difference when you can't close your door completely. Too bad ownership isn't paying attention to what is considered "maintenance" as Kachina COULD BE a real diamond, as the location is great. Desk staff was friendly enough, but going through initial training. No I would NOTstay at Kachina again, nor would I recommend it to any of my friends. Kachina needs a thorough inspection - I hope this information is helpful.

Great stay, right in town!

Pros: Breakfast coupon, late-check in and very affordable.
Cons: Fan in the bathroom and a coffeepot in the room.
Location: Short walk to downtown Taos.
Needed an affordable place to check-in super late and at the last minute. Was very impressed with the quality of the Kachina Inn and would definitely stay there again. Definitely on the funky side!
