Shady Arbor is your Mountain House Retreat at the Beach!

This unique shore home is your own all-inclusive private retreat complete with kayaks, paddle board, bikes, fire pit, gazebo, expansive new Trex deck, games, and tranquil ponds all set on a beautiful wooded lot that is just a short 5 minute walk to the beach!

Spend your days basking on the nearby beach and then come back and enjoy the incredible shade and tranquility of your own wooded paradise. Enjoy picnics on the deck, relax in the lighted gazebo, sit by the campfire and roast marshmellows, or unwind in the hammock in the cool and shady backyard.

Owners are very responsive and provide fully stocked kitchen, books, toys and many other essentials to make you feel right at home!

Upstairs is a full bath, 2 bedrooms, sleeping loft and entertainment area with a TV, while downstairs has a beautiful master suite, oversized jacuzzi tub, sunroom, and twin bedroom. Perfect for both 1 or 2 families. On those really hot days enjoy 2 zone central air, for the cool evenings there are 2 gas fireplaces.

You are a short 1 block walk to the 50 acre Cox Hall Nature Preserve with extensive trails and a large fishing pond stocked with trout. Entire area is great for walking DOGS and HUMANS!

ALSO - just a short walk (under 5 mins) to the super relaxing bay beach for tranquil days in the sand and incredible sunsets over the Delaware Bay. The dog friendly bay beach is perfect for little kids and for grown ups looking to unwind. For those who crave the big waves, it's a 10 minute drive to Cape May. Six Cape May beach tags are included, along with bikes, kayaks and a paddle board.

In addition to wonderful Summer days, the Fall is an especially great time to enjoy beautiful weather and empty beaches! And don't forget winter in Cape May as the entire town is turned into a Victorian Christmas Village second to none!

In Cape May you can also enjoy dining in the many fine restaurants or cafes and browse in the quaint shops for gifts and souvenirs. There are even horse drawn carriage rides passing by the ornate Victorian homes maintained in all the splendor of days gone by.

If you want to kick things up a notch, visit the Wildwoods, just north of Cape May. Stroll the boardwalk, browse the shops and arcades, visit amusement parks, water park, see spectacular nightly fireworks displays and dine in the many fine eateries located throughout the island.

Shady Arbor is also perfect for weddings, family gatherings, or just a peaceful relaxing vacation. (Sorry - no HS proms or Senior weeks).

An Amazing Getaway for a Group!
I recently stayed at Shady Arbor with a group of friends (and two dogs), and we had a spectacular time! The place itself is amazing, and ideal for a group of adults and/or families. There is so much space to spread out and relax between meals and trips to the beach. Walkable to a small, private bay beach AND a quick drive to Cape May, it's ideal for a fun time at the shore. Patti and Jim are excellent hosts, as well; check-in and check-out were simple, and were incredibly communicative throughout our stay. I can't say enough nice things about Shady Arbor! Would 100% stay again.

Great *clean* vacation house!
This is our second time here and we were excited to return. I loved the privacy of house nestled in the trees. The property is clean and well-maintained. Our 5 kids (aged 9 and below) loved the top story. I did pull out the top couch a couple of feet due to the half wall, and everything was fine up there. On our first visit, the stairs were really scary, but this time around, it wasn't too bad. We met Jim & Patti while on the beach. I mentioned a problem with the kid's bike, and they brought over another one from their other property. We appreciated it. The house has a certain 'specialness' to it and we were all glad we came back. The review I left in 2020, I gave 4 Stars, mainly because I was pregnant and grumpy. But we still had fond memories, so it was really 5 Stars (I can't edit that review). My husband and I really enjoy the luxury master suite, which is the main reason for our return, lol. Now.. the BBQ grill (same grill from 2020). Okay, I really don't care about aesthetics, it's a grill from a rental, it's not going to look shiny brand new. But I will say that it's hard to try to turn on/off and heat up. I remember having some trouble with it in 2020, but eventually got it going. But now it won't heat up enough to cook hotdogs. Some grills die sooner rather than later. Perhaps it needs a major repair or needs to be replaced? Jim/Patti, please consider a repair or replacement. Other than the grill, we all loved our stay!

We enjoyed our stay. The gazebo was very nice and comfortable. The fire pit was great. The house is clean with plenty of space. The location is excellent with a short walk to the beach for sunset. Highly recommend.

Beautiful property for a family vacation
This property was just what we needed for a 3 generation vacation. The house is so roomy and had everything we needed for a stay that included 5 kids from 1-9 years , 4 adults and 2 seniors. The walk to the beach was easy for everyone. The location was very convenient for all of the local spots we traveled to. The owners really thought of everything a family would need to have a comfortable stay. It made packing much easier knowing that so many things were already at the house, especially all of the beach gear.

Enjoyable Stay
We recently had the pleasure of staying at a VRBO house in Cape May for a family get away,and overall it was a pleasant experience. The house itself was lovely,and we particularly appreciated it's close location near the Bay beach. One of the unique features Was the ability to drive our truck right up to the public access walk in area and park nearby on the street. This made bringing along all our beach gear and toys a breeze, eliminating the need for strenuous carrying. While we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the house, there were a couple of setbacks that sadly affected our experience. The backyard fire pit and gazebo, which seemed like great spots for relaxation were rendered in accessible due to an onslaught of pesky mosquitoes. There unwelcomed insects were a constant presence day and night making it a challenge to fully utilize. the outdoors.A trip to the Lobster House ighly recommended. However, it's wise to arrive early as they open at 4:30 p.m. otherwise, you will wait about an hour to be seated. Our family also indulged in mini golf and pickleball which provided hours of entertainment and friendly competition. Exploring the local attractions. We found the Cape May lighthouse to be worthwhile visit. Additionally, the nearby pond with its bike trail was fun and refreshing way to enjoy the outdoors. Of course, no vacation is complete without some beach time and the In conclusion, our stay at the VRBO house in Cape May provided us with comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Large Home Near the Bay
The home was clean and contained a lot of room for a large group. It is located 3 blocks from the Delaware Bay. The neighborhood was excellent for bike riding. Beach tags were provided for those who wanted travel to the ocean side of town. Washer/dryer was very handy. There were two major issues. The woods surrounding the property were severely overgrown, making it difficult to navigate the vehicles down the driveway and walk along the paths to the front door. One vehicle was scratched by the overgrowth. Second, the grill is in need of repair. Could not get the temperature above 275 degrees. Seemed to have enough gas (two tanks), but the burners in the grill need replacing.

Charming home for a vacation near Cape May!
We found this to be a unique home close to beach and Cape May attractions (and less than half hour to Ocean City). Our party of 5 adults and 2 children had plenty of room both inside and out. It was well supplied with anything we needed … from soap to kitchen ware to books and games. Personally, as a handicapped individual, I did find the steps challenging but I was able to manage.

My family and I loved our four night stay! Easy, comfy, spacious, clean… everything you might need provided. The setting is beautiful and healing: woodland paths, trickling water running into small ponds, an inviting gazebo, a firepit, all under a canopy of tall trees. The baby learned to climb stairs on the 2 steps down to the main living room! We loved our walks around the pond in the nature preserve one block away, where we saw geese & goslings, turtles and birds. The bay beach was so pretty, so deserted on our morning walk. The four people we saw were friendly neighbors, who welcomed us and chatted a while. I’m so happy to have chosen this house for our first ever, three generation vacation. It was ideal for us, a paradise of our own where we could rest and recover from city life, as well as the hustle and bustle of Cape May. I cannot omit this: life-altering conversations (that would NOT have happened otherwise) bubbled up in our family togetherness on the front porch…conversations that are propelling each of us forward in new ways. 💔 Many thanks, Patti and Jim. I already dream of returning.

Family reunion

Second stay at this lovely home
This was our second stay at this location so that in itself tells you it is a wonderful property. The home is about a 5 minute walk to the bay beach which is small but was not crowded at all. The house is well equiped for any type of beach activities, games or just relaxing. My friends and I spent time at the beach, relaxed at the house and took the short drive (about 13 minutes) to downtown Cape May shops. The home was clean and had all we needed. The owner Patti was responsive with communication. We enjoyed this stay as much as our visit in 2019. I would not hesistate to stay here again.

Summer Vacation 2022
We absolutely loved this property! We had 3 generations of family that came together for our family reunion/vacation and this house was amazing! There was ample room for everyone in our party (4 adults, 4 kids and our dog)! Location was ideal and was an easy walk to the beach! Having come to the Jersey Shore for years with my family in the past, this was a nice change of pace being on the bay side of the beach! Beach was beautiful and the location was ideally located. Not too far from Cape May and Wildwood! I would highly recommend this house, and would absolutely stay again!! Thank you Jim and Patti for opening your house up to us...we hope to rent from you again next summer!!

Perfect place for a beach vacation!
This house is tucked away is a quiet neighborhood very close to a bay beach and a short drive to Cape May Beach or Wildwood. The home is clean and spacious and stocked with every necessity to make your vacation perfect! The fire pit was delightful to roast marshmallows for s'mores. I cannot say enough about the landscape/ it is nature at it's best.

We had a fantastic time this past weekend! The house was perfect, the younger kids mostly took over the 2nd floor, which gave the adults space of their own on the first floor. We ate at Harpoons by the bay one night, and grilled at home and had family time around the fire pit the next day. All in all a most enjoyable time for us all! Thank you for sharing your home!

I stayed at this house with my mom, sister, two adult daughters and our two dogs. There was more than enough room for all of us. There was a fully stocked kitchen, and even toiletries in the bathrooms. The house is a 5 minute walk, or maybe even less, to the beach. It was a perfect weekend getaway.

"Some Yes, Some No"
This is a quirky property in a quiet neighborhood. The bedrooms were not what we expected. The small bedroom on the main floor can only be accessed from inside the primary bedroom which would be great for a couple with small children but wasn't good for our all adult group. Also, the loft is better suited for children. The property was very appealing to some of our group because of the bicycles/toys and the fire pit. The nearby beach was better than we expected.
