Pristine Waterfront Home near Sunday River. Ski, Swim, Fish, Relax! 5 STAR *****

Welcome to the Grove!
We are a small family business that has taken great care in providing a safe environment for you to relax and enjoy a peaceful vacation.
This 5 bedroom 3 bathroom home is the perfect spot for a getaway at any time of the year! Located down a private road on the serene Papoose Pond, the Grove is set among the diverse and beautiful white pine forests. We often receive visits from loons, eagles, great blue herons, deer, fox, bear, porcine and moose. Come enjoy the calm and joy that comes from living close to nature- once you are here you won't want to leave!

The house is complete with all you could need for a fantastic stay. Enjoy comfortable beds with new mattresses, a complete kitchen, and ample dining and lounging space inside and out. Each room has been lovingly decorated with local original and unique art and furnishings. For recreation, we have a hot tub, WiFi, ping pong table, foosball table, fireplaces (indoor and outdoor), and large open lawn for games. On our private beach front you will find three kayaks (take them down the Crooked River!) and a canoe.

We have plenty of parking and a two car garage. The long private road is professionally cleared and maintained year round. Our hot tub is also professionally cleaned after each visit. We have a wonderful mother-daughter team that take great pride in keeping the houses clean and organized for each new guest. We have a full house water filtration system, plenty of hot water and brand new washer/ dryer and dishwasher.
We also make it very easy to recycle while you are here.
We also have a full house generator in case thee is a power outage. It does not happen often but it nice to know your vacation will not be interrupted!

For shopping, dining, and festivities, the towns of Norway and Bethel are only a few miles away. Visit the vibrant micro-breweries, farmer's markets, art galleries, museums, movie theaters, bowling allies and antique stores that make Maine famous!

Summertime in the lakes region is full of swimming, kayaking, fishing or paddle-boating. Our private beach front is a lovey place to enjoy some quiet time by the water. Swing on a hammock among the pines, or go hunting for wild blueberries!

Fall is a magical time as the foliage changes and the migrating birds rest on the pond on their way south. There are many places to hike in the area with beautiful mountain views and waterfalls.

Winter is full of activities as SUNDAY RIVER is just a cup of coffee away (25 min drive). The road to Sunday River is a beautiful and well maintained drive. Or you can cross country ski and snow shoe right out our door. After a day of winter fun, hop into the hot tub for a relaxing soak.

Spring is also lovely as our gardens start to come to life and wildlife reappears. Take a long bike ride on quiet Maine roads with spectacular scenery.

Too many heads, not enough beds? We also can provide another property to rent that sleeps 6 with 2 baths right next door. We call this The Cottage at The Grove.

An amazing get away
This was our annual family get away but our first time staying here at the grove. The owners of this amazing home went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and we appreciated even the little touches. The home was well decorated, the beds extremely comfortable and my family LOVED the hot tub, the beautiful deck area and the fire pit the most. We used the kayaks daily and took the canoe out a few times. I cannot say enough positive things and we would definitely stay here again.

Mostly good, with a couple of hiccups.
It was a very hot, humid and rainy week for everyone, so being on a lake was great with a game room and lots of nooks for the rainy days. Having access to kayaks/canoe and life jackets was helpful, and the fire pit, picnic table, level yard, hot tub and ample parking were all nice features. What didn’t help was only having two small bedroom window a/c’s to cover three floors of space, and both the oven and outdoor grill were not working properly. Without nearby restaurants or grocery stores, that was a big impact. We were surprised by how many stairs led to the water (20+8 maybe?), with only a rope handrail. As we were leaving, the owner said she was delivering bigger a/c’s and was open to replacing the stove and grill, and generally seemed open to suggestions, so hopefully these won’t be issues for others. If the weather was good, all the windows with a view would have offered nice breezes and the a/c wouldn’t have been such a big factor. All in all, we enjoyed our family gathering.

Wonderful experience for all, aged 20 months to 83. Spacious 3 level cabin on a spectacular wooded spot in Western Maine. Well equipped inside and at the waterfront. Numerous amazing hikes with secluded swimming holes within 30 minutes. But with Papoose Pond just a few steps from the door, it was hard to leave!

Great Vacation House
Loved the house and lake, great space for a large family with little ones. House was well stocked with needed supplies. Lots of room for 8 adults and 4 kids. Loved kayaking down the crooked river and the private beach. Hot tub was an added bonus. Would highly recommend this property. There were two rooms that were a bit hot, even using fans so not great for those that slept in those rooms but we had an awesome family vacation here, very clean, which we like. Linens and towels were included as well as a new washer and dryer. Very happy at this location

Overall a great vacation.
Basement bedroom beds were very uncomfortable. But upstairs beds were great. We could not use the vacuum because the bag was full. The kitchen was well stocked. The hot tub was great. Basement bathroom was not usable but Chris was very prompt in handling it. Overall a great vacation. Lots of good memories were made.

This vacation exceeded our expectations!
We had a wonderful vacation! We filled the house with two adults and eight teenagers, and there was more than enough room for all of us. We spent our days swimming, boating, tubing, hiking, and so much more. The nights consisted of campfires, s’mores, using the hot tub, movies at the local drive-in and playing games. And we still fit in plenty of time to just relax and take in the sights and sounds. The owners were always reachable. We highly recommend this house for a family vacation.

We had so much fun staying on Papoose Pond. The pond was perfect for swimming and kayaking with our young kids (ages 3 - 9). The setting is very picturesque and private, and the house easily accommodated our group of 11. We had a great time!

A Break from Reality!
This property is exactly what we were looking for. There was 11 of us in the house and more than enough room to be extremely comfortable. The lake was fantastic. With the canoe and kayaks we were able to enjoy the silence and wild life around us. Between the loons and bald eagles it was spectacular. Most of us fished every day and was never disappointed. Caught the largest bass we have seen for a while. Thank you Chris for the accommodations and letting us enjoy your home.

Family compound
This lakefront property was a great family compound for several generations of family. The property is very comfortable with a rustic setting. Our family enjoyed the canoes and kayaks on site and explored the small pond and surrounding streams. The house had plenty of space for the whole family and we enjoyed sitting around the on site fire pits and reminiscing about the day. The house is within a 10 minute drive for anyone attending events at Granite Ridge in Norway, ME. Great family gathering spot.

Excellent Family Vacation
I have 3 siblings with 3 SOs and we have 7 children all staying on Papoose Pond. The house had everything we need, except a couple more bedrooms. For our learning, "Sleeps 14" (in 5 sleeping areas) should've been better scrutinized by us given we're 13 adults! We loved the waterfront, kayaks, fire pits, SPACE on the first floor, hot tub, etc. Had a great time and explored the area, including the Crooked River in kayaks/canoes/SUPs, hikes to Pulpit rock and Cathedral ledge, shopping in No Conway and fab dinner in Bridgton at Vivo Country Italian Kitchen. Overall a great house from our hosts and a great vacation for our extended family.

Great big property! Private but not isolated. Kitchen impressively stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc including spices! No big amounts of bugs, a plus for us. The house has a lot of common space yet plenty of corners to cozy up in. Kayaks were a big hit with everyone! Wonderful time.

Great location on Papoose Pond. Kayaking down the Crooked River through the beaver damns was a daily event. Nearby tubing down the Androscoggin River was a relaxing way to beat the heat. So great we came back again!
This was our second trip to the Grove and just like the first time, it did not disappoint. The house is full of all the essentials including a washer and dryer, which were very helpful for our family trip in July. The house also has many rooms for families to have their own space or join together as a large group. Our group consisted of 8 adults and 6 children under the age of 7 years old. The location on the pond was perfect and there were three kayaks and a canoe provided along with ample life jackets. Near by we also enjoyed the Crooked River, hiking options, a golf course, and small town a short car ride away. We also utilized the hot tub and fire pit daily. Chris was very easy to get ahold of if we had any questions during our stay and the small issues we came across were taken care of in a very timely manner. We would recommend this house for a family vacation.

Better than planned
We planned a big family get together for over six months & were so pleased with our almost week-long stay over the Father’s Day weekend. The house looks just like the pictures and was stocked with all the essentials. The kitchen had plenty of dishes, silverware, glassware, coffee filters, etc. and all kinds of pots, pans, bowls, serving dishes, etc. The dining room had enough chairs for us all. The weather was mostly cloudy skies & some rain but didn’t put a damper on our stay! We really enjoyed the fireplace pit overlooking the lake every evening and we used the kayaks a couple of times. We all highly recommend this property and know you’ll be pleased. The owner has permission to share our email address if you have any questions.

Beautiful, quiet and comfortable. Spacious and inviting. The entire family loved it. Sometimes secrets are meant to be told. This is a secret place to vacation and get away from it all. Excellent accommodations, friendly owners, A+ stay!
I rented the place with 11 friends for a ski weekend and was certainly not disappointed! The house came as advertised—very spacious, beautiful waterfront location and all the amenities you might need. On top of that, the owner (Chris) was very friendly and easy to work with. I spoke with her on two occasions before the trip and both times she was very helpful, providing all important details about the property and the surrounding area. Not only was the property a great choice for a ski weekend (Sunday River was less than 30 minutes away), but I can imagine how perfect it would be for a summer getaway. I'd recommend this property to anyone!

We had a wonderful stay at the Grove. All instructions were straightforward, there was so much space for our 13 guests. Home was excellent - process was a challenge!
The home is well described and very roomy for a large group. The outside would benefit from yard work and pest control as spiders are hanging everywhere. The process was a challenge as my husband was planning a surprise party for me and he normally does not handle any of this stuff. During process owners added additional insurance fee, earlier check out time and considered canceling last minute. I understand she had wanted my husband to call her as he stated it was a surprise party and he was challenged in getting back in touch quickly due to work and being with me. However, it was stated early on that it would be 8 people staying one night and 14 people the second night - both of which are acceptable in the listing for this house. So, to be charged an additional insurance and earlier check out seemed out of what is advertised.
