Very Comfortable Peaceful Cabin in the Foothills of the Sangre'near Westcliffe!

Come stay at our rustic, but comfortable cabin snuggled in the foothills of the Sangre' de Cristo Mountain range at 8300 feet in front of Gibbs Peak with beautiful mountain and valley views all the way around, only 10 minutes North West of historic Westcliffe and Silvercliffe Co!!! AT THIS TIME NO ATV MOTORCYCLE OR OFF ROAD VEHICLE USE TOLERATED OR PERMITTED!! THERE IS NO ACCESS TO THE NATIONAL FOREST FROM THIS PROPERTY!! THERE IS NO SNOW PLOW OR REMOVAL!! It’s a very quiet, small community where few homes are occupied year round, with approximately 1acre which makes it the perfect place to "get-away" from it all. It is close enough to town for any needs you may have and is close to Lake DeWeese where fishing is available or sight seeing the beautiful San Isabel National Forest with hiking trails, Bishops Castle, Lake Isabel, the Royal Gorge and Canon City are only 40 miles away, and the great Arkansas River is about 20 miles and offers white water rafting, zip lines, tubing, kayaking, fly fishing and of course there is hunting in the mountains very close.

We have worked very hard to make our Cabin rustic but modern for an enjoyable stay for everyone. For convenience, we have installed wi-fi and television as well. The bed and hide-a-bed are new queen mattresses with the hide-a-bed upgraded to memory foam, both very comfortable. There is another couch in the living room for sleeping if needed. The living area is spacious with great views from inside as well. Kitchen, dining area is spacious and has a new gas range and dishwasher. The wood burning stove is just for looks and not useable at this time. Hot water heat is throughout the house, but there is no air conditioning as we've found open windows and fans are sufficient. The bedroom has a queen bed, dresser, large closet, all the amenities to make your stay comfortable. The bath has a tub/shower combination with jets in the tub to relax in after a hard day of hiking, hunting playing or just to enjoy. Everything is fully equipped, linens, dishes, etc. You can sit outside on the deck and enjoy the wildlife, and serenity of the area while cooking on the grill, all the while star gazing in the evening. There is ample parking for 2 or 3 vehicles. Unfortunately at this time, the property is not handicap accessible.

Great getaway
My husband and I and our two pups stayed at the cabin for 4 nights over Labor Day. The cabin is very cute, and had everything we needed. Richard was quick to respond to a question by text. Very quiet and the stars were amazing. Plenty of parking.

The cabin stay was a wonderful experience, Secluded, yet close to town for shopping. We were in a power outage for 3 hours one evening, but Richard helped by contacting the power company. Plenty of entertainment options at the cabin and also in the area. Very enjoyable!

Trip cut short
I was really excited for the stay here. After arriving it seemed perfect for a quiet getaway. Unfortunately we had to cut the trip short, but it had nothing to do with the quality of the property. The setup made checkout easy and Richard was very understanding. I would definitely stay here again and hope for better circumstances because the stars were beautiful from the back deck. Also the main bed was comfortable enough for my girlfriend and that is a huge plus.

Loved the view
We had a really nice time at your house Richard! You were an exceptional host. The house was very comfortable, with really nice views from the porch! We didn’t stay there but two nights, but would be happy to rent there again. My only complaint was the strong fragrance from the plug-ins. They were overwhelming. It took a day to air the place out. I’m very sensitive to fragrances so it may not be a problem for others. Really nice cabin! Thank you, Richard, for showing us to rent your place.

We loved this cabin tucked at the feet of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It was a easily accessible to both Westcliff & Hillside for events we were attending. The cabin itself was comfortable & cozy. Great start gazing too.

Our stay was fun. Nice, no-frills cabin but still some modern conveniences. You get the feel of being in the mountains just a few miles from town. Fantastic view of the Sangre de Cristos. We will definitely stay here again next time we’re in the area.

Richards cabin
Cabin was clean and tighty. Well maintained. Basically a fully equipped kitchen right down to a crockpot. Was great for a nearly 2 week stay. There are some other cabins near by but it is quiet and relaxing. Lots of trails for hiking within an hour drive. Internet is satellite internet but worked well when not cloudy. Highly recommend staying here.

Home away from home. Could see so many stars with the telescope. It was great! And got our first snow on new year's eve, come morning, covered in snow. It was awesome and my granddaughters loved it. It was fun.

Cute, rustic, cabin surrounded by beauty
The location was only 10 miles from Westcliffe and less than 30 minutes to any number of trail heads! Richard was very nice and replied very quickly, he even accommodated us when we had to bump up our stay a day because of a last minute death in my friend's family! The property was clean and homey!

Rustic Charming Place
Great place to stay. Very rustic, which is amazing for us. Loved the fire pit to sit around and listen to the creek and critters. Had all the amenities we needed, except for washer and dryer but there is a laundromat in town, so no problem.

Cozy cabin
My husband and I and our two dogs had a wonderful stay at this cozy cabin. The cabin was very clean and comfortable and had all the necessities that we needed during our 4-night stay. The location was convenient to the activities we had mapped out, like visiting Salida, downtown Westcliffe, and Royal Gorge area. Though the trees on the property prevent more than a peek-a-boo view of the Sangre de Cristos, there was an unobstructed view of the night sky and we were lucky enough to have a couple of clear nights to enjoy the wonderment of the galaxy. Make sure to bring your book or knitting or guitar to enjoy in the evenings, as we forget that Netflix and internet speeds can be a little slower in the mountains. We appreciated Richard checking in with us to make sure we arrived and got into the cabin without issue. We look forward to returning!

Disappointed
Clean and comfortable inside, but NO curb appeal, NO View - obstructed by water tanks and lawn clutter. Excess junk fees nearly doubled the price of per night fees - not a good value. Unfortunately could not recommend.

Fantastic stars, humble lodging
Easy booking, good directions In the foothills, quick trip to Westcliffe. The house was adequate, but It reminded me of my grandma’s little house in the 1950s. Good and dark for star gazing when weather cooperated.

What a great time.
Everything was easy and convenient. Downtown Westcliffe is only 15-20 minutes away. Very quiet and cozy. We made a fire and just relaxed. We stayed up late every night just to observe and take pictures of the amazing night sky. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to get away from the city. Saw deer, hummingbirds and even an owl. The mountains are gorgeous.

A beautiful and cozy stay
We had a wonderful and relaxing time here! The area is stunningly beautiful and Westcliffe is a nice little town away from everything else. Richard was very communicative and hospitable. He even offered to cover part of the shipping when he had to mail us our crockpot we left there (d'oh). If you intend to cook, the kitchen is very nicely outfitted with gas stoves and an a gas oven and a good number of pots/pans/dishes (some needed a quick rinse when we got there, but nothing out of the ordinary). The house was also well-heated during our below-freezing stay and had plenty of blankets and hot water. We absolutely recommend for a nice getaway!

Awful Honeymoon! This guy is nuts!
Very poor communication from the owner, Richard. We stayed for less than 12 hours the night of our honey moon. We were actually there abuot 10 hours before he texted us and alerted us that a snow storm was coming and that we should leave. We were impressed that he was so kind, (but wait until the end of the story) he said he would work it out where we would stay the rest of our pre-paid 3-nights another time. A couple weeks later, we called him and arranged on the phone for the 2-night stay which he verbally said would be free. We were both on the phone and both heard him say it. He did tell us there would be another cleaning fee and that is understandable. The weekend before the stay, we called him to confirm, and he was rude right off hand. He was being loud and beligerant. he denied telling us it was a free stay. we continued being polite, so as to be professinoal with him, but I believe he was drunk as a skunk the way he was acting. he said he couldn't remember the conversation, asked us to remind him, then said he doesn't think he said that. then asked what we wanted to make us happy, and we said for him to honor his word and he yelled at us "NO! you're not getting that! It's out of the question!" we ended up ending the call and calling VRBO whose hands are tied as to what they can do. The main thing is, even if he were to remember the deal and let us stay, we don't want to stay there anymore because what if he forgets, gets drunk, and shows up at his rental that he thinks is supposed to be vacant, with a shotgun?! The rep said she can only email him and ask him to honor HIS return policy which is a half refund. so the end of the story is that we paid about $400 for a 12-hour stay after the cleaning fee and after all is said and done and after all the hassle. Nice honeymoon, huh!
