The remains of Soda Springs, one of 49 mineral spring that attracted visitors to this area in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The springs were developed by the Longmire family, who first settled the area in 1883 after building a wagon trail from Ashford, 13 miles (21 km) away. In addition to improving the springs, the Longmires constructed a series of cabins, tents, a 5-room hotel, and hiking trails to Paradise.

By 1915 the Longmires and the National Park were no longer seeing eye-to-eye, and the Longmires leased the property to a hotelier, who improved and continued to operate the springs until the National Park Service purchased the property in 1939. "This was a great place to stay for visiting the park. Loved getting into the hot tub after a full day of hiking and the house was very clean. Our only issues were that the WiFi wasn’t working so we couldn’t watch tv at night, knives in the kitchen are so dull it was hard to cut a bell pepper, and the furniture and beds/ pillows were not comfortable. We loved the yard for birding. There is a steller’s jay nesting nearby and we saw lot of Ravens, sparrows, swallows, finches and warblers....
