Unique West End Brewery horse stabling barn in the Adelaide Hills

Welcome to Stables on Eight. We hope you enjoy our little piece of history in the hills. Established in the 80's, the barn has undergone numerous renovations and restorations. We have tried our best to keep the building in its original state, placing emphasis on its history as a horse stabling facility. The barn is spacious, unique and the perfect place to unwind. Set on 40 acres, Stables on Eight was once home to the incredible team of draft horses owned by the West End Brewery.

West End Brewery opened in 1859 in Adelaide. To ensure the safe delivery of beer around the city, a carriage pulled by a team of Clydesdales horses were used. To keep this tradition alive, West End Brewery continued to keep a team of Clydesdale horses here at Stables on Eight for major promotional events, shows and historical events. The horse lived on the property with their trainer for a number of years. The barn and stabling facilities were built solely to house the horses and tack.

Stables on Eight encapsulates history, architecture, space and a rural feel. Built in the 80's, the building boasts intricate stone masonry, exposed beams, lighting and attached stables.

Featuring separate living and bedroom areas, it is the perfect place for exploring the Adelaide Hills. Centrally located to major wineries, bike tracks, walks, markets, breweries and the famously acclaimed Birdwood National Motor Museum, it is primely positioned. Whether you are after a day adventure or an afternoon activity, Stables on Eight is situated within 10-20mins from all major attractions/activities.

After a busy day exploring the Hills, enjoy a wine by the toasty fire indoors or venture outside and enjoy the serenity and ambiance of the open fire pit.

Featuring a fully equipped kitchen and cooking facilities, guests can choose to dine in or venture out to one of the many local eateries.

The bedroom features an impressive super king bed with linen. Extra blankets are provided, should guests need.

Unwind in the spa bath or enjoy the twin shower equipped with shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

Breakfast is provided for the first nights stay.

Luxury and comfort in the Hills
Beautiful restored stables. Full of character and charm. Super comfy giant bed. Clean and well appointed. They have thought of everything we could need. Yummy farm breakfast on 1st morning. Owners very helpful with any of our questions. Easy day trips to all towns in the adelaide hills. Highly recommend this accommodation.

Lovely property in the Adelaide Hills
This is a lovely property near Birdwood, a good location. We really liked the character of the property and enjoyed the friendly dog and crooks. Owners were easy to deal with. Unfortunately the road has become busy and was noisy, the owners have done their best to add double glazing but the road is what it is. During the quiet times though, fantastic, very peaceful, very enjoyable.

A short and cosy break from a busy life.
We really enjoyed this renovated and cosy retreat. Beautifully brought to life with love and attention to detail. We used this cottage as home base, and enjoyed visiting some of S.A. that we have not been able to for many years. We are leaving refreshed and all the better for breathing country air and tasting great food. Thank you Courtney and Drew for having us stay at your little gem. Andrea and Geoff

Nice but left wanting
A lovely peaceful escape for two with most of our needs met .We stayed three nights . A plentiful breakfast was left for us with good quality food . Just a few things would have improved our stay- 1. Not having to purchase fire wood, especially when you arrive late. 6 coffee pods for three days . Nothing is replenished. No extra towels anywhere, towels were damp all the time . A hand towel would be nice . The bedroom is extremely cold . A heater in winter would warm the room. Hot air from the lounge room travels up into the high ceilings , not into this room . An electric blanket would have helped. I feel these are still basic needs , not luxury items . However , I would still recommend this accomodation for a peaceful escape .
