Lovely log home on Lake Mattamuskeet

This wonderful hunting lodge is ideal for a family get away on beautiful Lake Mattamuskeet. Enjoy the wildlife at your back door or view it all from inside. We have numerous wild game mounts from the area that everyone will enjoy. Bears, wolves, foxes, bobcats, and of course lots of ducks. The home features a master bedroom downstairs with a queen and private bath. Upstairs you will find two bedrooms with a double and twin bed each and one room with four bunk beds (these are not kids beds as men sleep in them all the time during duck season). There are two full baths upstairs and an additional 1/2 bath downstairs. Full modern kitchen with dishwasher, stove, oven (with plate warmer - my favorite feature), refrigerator / freezer and plenty of house ware for home cooked meals. Washer / Dryer is also located off the kitchen. The dining table will seat 12 as well. Wide screen TV (Direct TV) and gas fireplace in the open living room as well a pool table. NOW INCLUDING STARLINK INTERNET

Wonderful!
This is the perfect cabin for a nature getaway! Spacious, comfortable, wonderful lake views, I was disappointed I had to leave. Jeff was quick to correspond and his home had everything needed to have a wonderful vacation. There are no big grocery stores nearby so Jeff let me know in advance so I could purchase foodstuffs on my way before I checked in. His house binder offered great tips on local attractions and restaurants, very helpful, too. Highly recommend his cabin, especially if you’re a hunter or nature enthusiast!

La Bear Lodge August 2023
The Lodge is a wonderful place for family get-togethers. The location is convenient enough to the outer banks for visits to the beach. We used the ferry to get to Ocracoke Island. It made for a long day, but the grandkids loved the boat ride. The kids were enchanted by the taxidermy throughout the lodge, especially the rampant bear. We had a minor problem with the lock box for the key in that we couldn't get it to close properly. Otherwise, things went great. I would recommend the Lodge for others.

Great log house on the lake
The house is spacious and comfortable to live in. Two large bedrooms with bathrooms and one bedroom with 4 bunk beds for kids with a shared bathroom. Well equipped kitchen with pretty much everything needed for cooking including steamers and oil fryer that we used to cook soft shell crabs. Stuffed animals add a charm to the place. The property is secluded and there is not much of civilization around, however a 20-30 min drive will get you to basic necessities. It is all specified in the house description and obvious from the map. All appliances and AC were in a good shape and worked well for us. We are considering renting this house again in the fall.

La Bear Out There
Great house nestled in farm country right on the lake. The house was spacious and had a huge back porch that allowed us to watch the sunset over the lake each night. You could spend an entire day looking at the taxidermy alone! The beach was only an hour away which made it easy for a couple day trips while still being able to come back and relax by the lake. Truly a wonderful trip with friends and family! Highly recommend a stay at LaBear

Most amazing
We loved our stay at La Bear Lodge and can’t wait to go back! The house was comfortable, the views amazing, and just a darn great place to spend the weekend! The house was spotless, the kitchen well equipped and the beds were comfortable! The grounds are fantastic and the pier perfect! Overall, we will come back time and again! This was a great home for a family gathering (we were celebrating a kids birthday and Mother’s Day). We had plenty of space for everyone to gather but also enough space for everyone to enjoy and relax.

Great place for unwinding and enjoying nature.
This is our second visit to La Bear Lodge, and it was, once again, a fantastic stay. We love sitting on the porch and pier watching the birds, and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. There is an active osprey nest just off the shore and we enjoyed photographing them. Our grandkids played outside until dark. The home is very comfortable with a well-appointed kitchen where we cooked most of our meals (and we are a group that enjoys cooking). Comfortable and spacious for 5 adults and 3 kids. Folks should be aware that there isn’t WiFi, but cell signal is great, and there is satellite TV if the weather turns. Frankly we never watched TV or internet surfed; we spent our time outside. There is great bicycling nearby, both road and gravel. We’ve booked again in June hoping to see osprey chicks.

Perfect Getaway
The welcome letter says " if you cannot relax here, you don’t stand a chance to relax anywhere". I completely agree with this statement. This is undoubtedly one of the best cabin I have stayed . The rooms were very spacious and clean. The cabin itself is like a museum! The lake is right in-front of the cabin and the sunset view is spectacular. Lot of bird activity around cabin..if you are into bird watching or photography , this is the perfect place..

This is a property that did not disappoint in anyway. Our group of friends spent a few days kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing. One of our friends is a professional chef and he was able to make exceptional meals with the fully stocked kitchen. We plan on making this an annual trip!

Awesome place!
The house was perfect for our group. The taxidermy collection was amazing! Boat access to Rose Bay was only15 minutes away from the house. Multiple days were spent fishing in the bay as the lake was closed. Ferry access from Swan Quarter to Ocracoke was approximately 20 minutes away. It was a great place to relax!

Wonderful Lake House
The house and grounds were amazing. It is apparent that the owners take pride in this place. It was quiet and secluded which is exactly what we needed. Our contact was very fast with his replies and was able to answer all of our questions. Only reason I gave a 4 star on the cleanliness was due to all the bugs on the back porch. It is a cabin out in the country so bugs are to be expected but maybe some bug zapper lights to help combat that. Overall though, it was an amazing weekend!!

Short Get Away
My family and I only had a couple of days to get away. What a treasure we found here on the lake. If you want somewhere quiet and relaxing, away from crowds and noise (except for the sound of nature at night) this is the place. The fishing off the bridge (hwy 94) was excellent for the boys. The front porch and coffee in the AM was what my wife and I relished. The decor of the house is fascinating. The owner and the property manager were prompt, courteous and answered every question. We will definitely be going back.

Relaxation in so many ways
We really enjoyed this property and our stay here. The inside of the lodge is well-kept up. The beds are comfy. There are lots of taxidermy, which my 7 and 9 year olds were afraid of, at first, and only hesitant toward at the end. The pool table is nice. I couldn't find access to any wifi, which in some ways added to the relaxation, though I still had cell/data service through my Verizon provider. The dock is a lovely place to sit and watch the sunrises or sunsets or do some fishing. The sunrises and sunsets aren't truly visible from the dock, not in the way you might like to see the sun directly on the water, because the sun rises and sets in the far corners of the lake behind all the trees. The night skies are pristine. No light pollution, so I could see all the stars and the Milky Way. There were quite a multitude of bugs along the deck, but they stayed near the lights. Water pressure and temperatures in the showers is great. I warned my kids about the random stray shotgun shells in some drawers, and they stayed away from them. I didn't see any neighbors in any of the sparse nearby houses, so we were all alone. The back deck is well lit, in case you arrive at night. One Issue: there was a leak in the ceiling above one of the beds ... in the upstairs room that shares a door to the attached bathroom. My kid woke up in the morning thinking they'd peed the bed, but it was the leak. She switched beds. I'd go back.
