About three quarters of a mile before the summit, I climbed a twenty-foot ridge to get this view. Shortly thereafter, hip-deep in snow, we decided to abandon the effort and return on a warmer day.

You cannot understand disappointment until you have climbed a mile in the air, thwarted by false trails, downed trees and thick snow to arrive a hundred feet below and a half-mile away from your goal, only to abandon the very thing you set out to accomplish. Not all good decisions leave you satisfied.
