Arrive in Wakayama, a city that serves as a gateway to the ancient Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes. While the area draws visitors for its historic trails and heritage, after dark its streets shift into a quieter, local rhythm — one that most travelers never see.

Meet your guide at the starting point and get oriented to the evening ahead, gaining a sense of the drinking culture that has long been part of everyday life here. From there, move on foot through the bar districts within walking distance of the area, stepping into three distinct venues across the course of the evening.

At each stop, settle in, order drinks, and engage with the atmosphere that each spot brings. Your guide helps you navigate menus, makes introductions where appropriate, and keeps the pace comfortable between bars, so the night unfolds naturally rather than feeling rushed.

By the end of the third bar, move through three different corners of Wakayama’s local nightlife, each with its own character. Leave with a grounded sense of how locals actually spend their evenings in this part of Japan — not as a tourist attraction, but as a participant in the city’s after-hours routine.
