Emmanuel Gazmey Santiago was born on November 26th, 1992, in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Music was seemingly Gazmey’s destiny, as his father was a vice president A&R at Sony Music in Puerto Rico. Growing up, he was very close to Tempo, a fellow Latin trap artist. In 2010, he decided to become a rapper and secured a record deal with Maybach Music Group. His debut single, “Demonia”, was a collaboration with Nengo Flow in 2011, but it wasn’t until “Esclava” did he rise to the public eye. World-renown latin trap artist, Daddy Yankee, remixed Gazmey’s single hit, “Sola”, to very positive critiques. In 2016, Anuel AA was arrested for gun possession charges. This did not stop him from recording his voice and sending them to artists like Nicky Jam and J Balvin to be featured on their work. After his release from prison, Anuel AA released his first full-length album, titled Real Hasta la Muerte. It charted No. 1 on the Billboard Top Latin albums in under 24 hours. He was criticized very heavily in 2018 for his release of a diss track aimed at Cosculluela, which featured remarks of homosexuality and HIV positive patients. Anuel AA’s production staff cancelled his performance scheduled for October 12th at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico. Anuel AA may find himself in a sea of legal issues and controversy, but it’s no doubt that he knows how to put on a show!
