Dallas Mavericks Ticket Information

Founded in Dallas in 1980, the Mavericks—or simply the Mavs—have become one of the most popular basketball teams in NBA history. Since their inception, the Mavs have gone on to win 3 division titles, 2 conference championships, and the NBA Finals in 2011. The team’s greatest period of success has been within the last 15 years, led by famous players Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd, and Jason Terry, as well as billionaire owner Mark Cuban. As of 2017, the team has sold out more than 700 consecutive games at the American Airlines Center, the longest currently running sellout streak in all of North America’s major leagues. Don’t wait long to grab your own Mavericks tickets to watch them battle it out in Dallas.

History of the Dallas Mavericks

Following the announcement that the NBA would bring an expansion team to Dallas, radio station WBAP hosted a contest to name the team. The station narrowed the fan votes down to 3 recommendations—the Mavericks, the Wranglers, and the Express—with then-owner Don Carter selecting the Mavs in honor of the old Western TV series. Yet, despite signing iconic coach Dick Motta, the early days of the Mavs weren’t all that successful. Though they won their debut game over in-state rivals the San Antonio Spurs, they ultimately ended the 1980–81 season with 15 wins and 67 losses. However, that all began to change the next year when the team secured Mark Aguirre, Rolando Blackman, and Jay Vincent—3 players who would go on to lead the team to 6 playoffs in 9 years and their first division title in 1987.

The decade between 1990 and 2000 was a tough one, as the Mavs failed to reach the playoffs, despite acquiring Jim Jackson and Jason Kidd. But following the 1998 signing of German forward Dirk Nowitzki, the team was catapulted into a new 13-year era of success. Alongside players such as Steve Nash, Michael Finley, and Jason Terry—not to mention Jason Kidd, who returned to the Mavs after leaving in 1996—Nowitzki led the team to 2 more division titles, 2 conference championships, their first 2 appearances in the NBA Finals, and a 2011 Championship victory over the Miami Heat.

The Mavs Today

With the loss of both Terry and Kidd in 2012, the Mavs struggled in their post-Championship years, losing in the first round of the NBA Playoffs 3 seasons in a row. Today, under Head Coach Rick Carlisle, the team is attempting to regain their standing in the conference, building a roster around Seth Curry, Harrison Barnes, Nerlens Noel, and Yogi Ferrell. Get tickets to cheer on the team as they take on rivals like the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, and Houston Rockets.
